SkySafe is looking for an experienced wireless communication systems engineer to advance its RF drone detection and mitigation systems for its counter UAS (CUAS) products. The ideal candidate has a breadth and depth of knowledge on physical layer wireless communication systems plus experience turning that specialized knowledge into production-grade software defined radio (SDR) implementations.

Responsibilities:

  • Improve and evolve SkySafe’s industry leading SDR-based systems for drone detection and tracking.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain signal detection and demodulation algorithms.
  • Analyze, reverse engineer, and document the physical layer of communication systems (modulation, coding, scrambling, symbol mapping, interleaving, etc.).
  • Support operational requirements and participate in the on-call operations schedule.

Requirements:

  • Five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Background in signal processing, communication systems, information theory, and channel coding.
  • History of demonstrable research and development (e.g., conferences, journals, open source or personal projects).
  • Strong command of modern C++ and Python programming.
  • Proficient with Linux systems.
  • Proficient in software development practices: Git, testing, automation, observability, metrics, issue tracking, code reviews, etc.

  • Experience with NI (Ettus) SDRs, like the x310, covering the RF design, FPGA firmware, and intricacies of UHD and RFNoC.
  • Experience implementing optimized signal processing algorithms in FPGAs.
  • Familiarity with one or more modern wireless standards like LTE, 5G NR, WiFi, Bluetooth, GNSS, etc.
  • Familiarity with other sensing paradigms like radar, vision, RF signal geolocation, etc.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques for signal processing.
