JOB SUMMARY
The Vice President, Software Engineering provides leadership in aligning technology development with business objectives to delivery and maintain high-quality strategic applications. The VP provides overall direction and guidance to software development teams including developers, quality assurance, architecture and engineering specialists, across multiple geographies. This experienced, knowledgeable and transformational technology leader will partner with product managers and product designers in executing Agile, product-oriented delivery. This person will determine product and domain priorities and ensure software development, maintenance, and innovation objectives are met.
Essential RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES
Agile Delivery / Agile Transformation
- Drive the execution and delivery of Agile Product teams and by collaborating with many cross-functional teams, including product management, analytics, architects and developers to ensure high-quality, efficient output.
- Own the technology vision, roadmap and viability risk for all Product(s) within assigned area of responsibility.
- Ensure alignment between business strategies, enterprise transformation initiatives, technology standards and practices.
- Responsible for solution architecture, software engineering, test automation, performance engineering, DevSecOps and production support service levels.
- Ensure stable and predictable day-to-day IT operations.
- Capacity Planning
- Prepare/manage domain/product budget: P&L forecasting, operational/capital expenditures, contract negotiations, license and SLA management and invoice processing.
Communication / Relationship (Stakeholder) Management
- Work closely with business partners / Operations leadership on a regular basis to ensure IT’s alignment with business needs and to plan for needs to support emerging requirements.
- Oversee relationships with key vendors, evaluating new providers as needed.
Leadership
- Manage multiple teams of geographically diverse professionals to accomplish established goals.
- Compose delivery teams across onsite employees, global captives and vendors for continuous balancing of capacity needed and operating expense.
- Embody lean-agile mindset and support innovation culture.
- Recruit, diligently onboard and retain top talent; build empowered teams, delegate effectively, motivate, celebrate diversity within the team, and manage performance. Coach and mentor to unlock talent.
Technologist
- Understand North Star architecture and champion with Product teams, partner closely with Chief Architect
- Keeps abreast of relevant technologies seeking opportunities to improve effectiveness & efficiencies in the Arch platform that delivers optimal customer value and increase service levels.
- Maintains good awareness of broad technology trends that impact the Property & Casualty Insurance Industry.
- Contributes to the development of software, test automation, performance engineering standards, policies, processes and procedures to ensure these practices align with enterprise standards.
- Participates in vendor/strategic partner evaluations and monitors the relationship on an ongoing basis.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Technical Knowledge
- Deep experience with Agile methodologies, SAFe and DevSecOps and its application to company technology needs to enable business outcomes.
- Deep Knowledge of event-based architecture, microservices, application test automation products, processes, and best practices. Experience with Boomi and Azure Event Hub a plus.
- Experience in driving efficiency and scalability within development teams with modern technologies – i.e. GenAI.
- Experienced in scalable, high-availability Azure hosting environments.
Leadership
- Strong strategic decision making & long-term planning abilities to manage resources and develop efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and motivate team and collaborate with senior management.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
- Be an excellent cross-functional influencer.
Industry Experience
- Prefer deep working experience with specialty commercial insurance with a knowledge of Casualty, Property, and Financial and Professional Lines.
- Prefer substantial breadth of knowledge of the information technology/systems field across the P&C Insurance value chain from Intake, Underwriting, Policy Management, Financial and reporting capabilities; other Financial Services experience will be considered.
Education & Experience:
10 to 15 years related experience in Software development & architecture including at least 5+ years of managing people.
3 plus years in leadership responsibilities including strategic vision, vendor management and managing department budget.
At least 5 years of experience in Solution Architecture leveraging modern architecture principles.
For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$155,000 - $250,000/year

Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
