We are looking for a VP R&D to join our team and lead our innovation efforts, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Role Overview

The Vice President of Research and Development (VP R&D) will lead and oversee all aspects of the company’s R&D activities. This role is crucial for driving innovation, developing new products, and ensuring that the R&D function aligns with the company’s strategic goals. The VP R&D will manage a team of R&D managers, collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, and be responsible for developing and executing the R&D strategy to meet the company’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

• Develop and implement the R&D strategy in alignment with the company’s overall goals, with a focus on leveraging AI technologies.
• Identify and evaluate new AI technologies, trends, and opportunities for innovation.
• Set R&D priorities and allocate resources effectively to achieve key objectives related to AI and other emerging technologies.

Team Management:

• Lead, mentor, and manage the R&D team leaders, including AI specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
• Oversee the recruitment, development, and performance management of R&D staff.
• Promote continuous learning and professional development within the team, particularly in AI and related fields.

Project Management:

• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of R&D projects, ensuring they incorporate AI technologies where applicable and are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
• Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource plans with a focus on AI-driven initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to project milestones, deliverables, and quality standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with company executives and other key stakeholders to align R&D strategies with overall business objectives.
• Work closely with other departments (e.g., Product Management, Customer Success, Marketing) to ensure seamless integration of R&D initiatives, particularly those involving AI, with business objectives.
• Work with enterprise clients, both as part of the sales process and on collaborative integration projects, to ensure successful implementation and alignment with their needs.

Innovation and Product Development:

• Drive the development of new products and technologies from concept through commercialization.
• Ensure that R&D efforts are aligned with market needs and customer expectations.
• Monitor and evaluate industry trends and competitive landscape to inform R&D strategies.

Compliance and Quality:

• Ensure that all R&D activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to meet or exceed industry standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Science, Technology). 
• Proven experience as a VP R&D or in a similar senior R&D leadership role, with a track record of successful innovation and product development.
• Proven experience in scaling operations and teams effectively.
• 4+ years of experience in managing managers.
• Experience in managing large, diverse teams including full stack, algo, DevOps & QA, and cross-functional projects.
• Proven track record of implementing AI solutions, from concept to production.
• Strong understanding of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
• Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to make data-driven decisions and manage complex projects.
