On the product & design team, we are responsible for delivering Calm to our customers, ensuring that it is easy to use, supportive of their goals, and of high quality across web, iOS, Android. 

This role will manage and oversee the Product Design, UX research, and UX Writing functions on the consumer app team. They will partner with Product Management, Engineering, Data Science, and Marketing leadership to plan efforts to bring new customers to Calm. 

We are hiring remote workers for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, or Minneapolis areas. At this time, only candidates in these locations will be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Product design team leadership: Great design and UX are core to Calm. You will lead a team of experienced product designers and researchers to execute on our company goals. You should also be willing to roll up your sleeves and creatively direct as necessary in order to keep our quality bar high
  • Mentorship & management: You will mentor a world-class team of designers, writers and researchers and establish clear standards for performance and quality. We are a lean team, so being able to flexibly allocate resources and manage bandwidth is critical
  • Cross-functional & leadership collaboration:  You will partner closely with the leaders of product, engineering, brand design, content, customer experience and sales to ship impactful, high quality products
  • Vision & Ideation:  As a member of the DTC leadership team, you will work closely with other leaders to articulate Calm’s product vision and strategy through design

Who You Are

  • Experience successfully coaching and managing the performance of teams across Product Design, UX Writing and UX Research
  • Experience leveraging successful strategies for organizational planning and approaches to strengthen team capacity
  • Ability to map product design decisions back to business needs and broader organizational needs
  • High product quality bar and a strong eye for visual design 
  • Experience building consumer applications from zero to one
  • Strong background in shipping impactful products that require tight collaboration with marketing, brand, and other relevant functions
  • Strong experience partnering with Product Management and Engineering to meet deadlines and deliver quality products
  • In-depth knowledge of human-centered design practices, research methodologies, and design tools
  • Exceptional leadership experience managing lean teams with multiple competing priorities
  • Presentation and communication skills suited for our executive team that leverage design storytelling to drive alignment
  • Create a learning environment where designers grow and expand skill-sets, techniques, and tools

  • This role typically requires 15+ years of relevant experience

Calm uses a geographic pay model that determines salaries based on the location where an employee lives. For this position, the base pay ranges across Calm’s pay tiers is as follows:

$300,000 - $375,000

The base pay range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications.

Calm uses employee zip code to determine which pay range applies.

This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off.
