Role Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned VP of Operations with deep expertise in the paving industry to lead operational excellence across our platform companies. This role is not for a generalist. It is for a battle-tested operator who has run a large paving business, understands how to optimize crews, equipment, production schedules, margins—and has lived through post-acquisition integrations.

You will serve as a strategic partner to The Pave and work directly with the CEOs of our operating companies. Your mission is to drive consistent execution, implement best-in-class systems, and guide each business through post-acquisition growth and operational alignment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with company CEOs to create and implement operational strategies that drive performance, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Lead post-acquisition integration efforts including SOP alignment, cultural integration, financial reporting, and key personnel retention.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs across all platform companies to ensure consistent tracking of productivity, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to operating company leadership—bringing decades of paving experience to guide decision-making.
  • Drive the implementation of shared services, centralized technology, and cross-company initiatives.
  • Identify areas for operational improvement and cost savings across the portfolio (equipment usage, staffing, project management, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the COO and CEO on strategic planning and long-term growth initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years of senior-level operations leadership in a paving, asphalt, or heavy civil construction company.
  • Direct experience managing large crews, multi-million dollar projects, and regional operations.
  • Proven track record leading operational integrations post-acquisition.
  • Deep understanding of field operations, fleet management, scheduling, estimating, and safety compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a hands-on leadership style and ability to influence across teams.
  • Ability to travel to operating company locations regularly across the Southwest.
  • Must have worked and built a paving business above 20M of revenue.
