Job Description
The VP, MF Operational Risk Management reports to the SVP, Multifamily Chief Credit Officer. The leader is responsible for (1) targeted program initiatives and (2) overall governance, risk, and compliance activities across the Multifamily mortgage business. This position has leadership responsibility for setting the strategic plan to promote and protect the interest of the corporation, inclusive of ensuring that the business strategies developed and implemented by the division are risk mitigated and managed to provide the appropriate level of safety and soundness. This VP is tasked with leading the overall efforts for first-line operational risk management, operational compliance, and business resiliency and continuity for the MF division. Success requires effective communication that is timely, clear, and informative, proactive management of operational risk, collaboration with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Internal Audit, and business level reporting of both status and risk measures / concerns. Additionally, continually evolving and maturing the function to meet the ever-changing demands of Fannie Mae and the Multifamily business is required.

The VP, MF Operational Risk Management role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
- Set the strategy and vision of operational risk management for Multifamily as well as lead and coordinate operational compliance across Multifamily; Operational compliance includes, but is not limited to, policies and procedures, delegations of authority, privacy, fraud and fair lending.
- Understand and lead complex risk reviews, including understanding of Model Risk Management, Fair Lending, Third-Party Risk Management, Compliance, and other emerging risk dimensions of operational risk.
- Lead and coordinate project work across the Multifamily division as requested and/or identified.
- Manage a sizable organization of risk management professional with a focus on talent attraction, development, and retention.
- Support and complete on-going project support needs in a timely and sound manner.
- Ensure ongoing alignment between project objectives and division's strategic priorities.
- Provide support for ad hoc special projects.
- Responsible for divisional wide operational incident filing and reporting within requirements and processes of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).
Qualifications
THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- 15+ years of relevant experience in risk management, ideally within first- or second-line operational risk; ideally 5+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Risk management leadership experience ideally at a complex financial services institution.
- A background working in a regulated environment with frequent regulator interaction.
- The group of skills related to Risk Assessment and Management including evaluating and designing controls, conducting impact assessments, identifying control gaps, remediating risk, etc.
- Experience in the process of analyzing operational risk data to identify trends or relationships to inform conclusions about the division’s risk level and health of operational risk controls.
- The group of skills related to Business Insight including advising, designing business models, interpreting customer and market insights, forecasting, benchmarking, etc.
- The group of skills related to Relationship Management including strong connections to the Multifamily teams as well as managing and engaging stakeholders, customers, and vendors, building relationship networks, contracting, etc.
- The group of skills related to Influencing including negotiating, persuading others, facilitating meetings, and resolving conflict.
- Skilled in presenting information and/or ideas to an audience in a way that is engaging and easy to understand.
- Experience helping an organization to define strategic plans and then execute and manage change in effort to meet objectives.
- The group of skills related to Governance and Compliance including creating policies, evaluating compliance, conducting internal investigations, developing data governance, etc.
- Adept at managing project plans, resources, and people to ensure successful project completion.
- The group of skills related to Communication including communicating in writing or verbally, copywriting, planning and distributing communication, etc.
- Collective capabilities for leadership, including leading teams, giving feedback, facilitating meetings, and coaching and mentoring.
