Dotdash Meredith is seeking a forward-thinking, data-driven leader with deep expertise in app monetization, programmatic advertising, and cross-functional collaboration to join us as the VP, App Monetization. This role will be pivotal in optimizing ad health, performance, and revenue growth across Dotdash Meredith’s growing set of mobile apps.

 

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strategic vision and hands-on experience, with a proven ability to lead teams and work collaboratively across departments to deliver measurable business impact. With access to robust data insights, cutting-edge tools, and a culture of innovation, this individual will help shape the future of Dotdash Meredith’s app monetization strategy.

 

The majority of the team and the hiring manager are based in New York City and work in-office three days per week. For exceptional candidates, remote work arrangements may be considered, with occasional travel for team meetings or company events. The ideal candidate will work three days per week in the New York City office.

The Programmatic Monetization Team is the backbone of one of the main revenue drivers at Dotdash Meredith. We manage our programmatic relationships, drive growth through new initiatives, and ensure that all the ad slots are healthy and deliver ads to our users, which keeps the websites and apps free for everyone to visit. We proactively work to increase the yield of those ad slots as well as retroactively determining what could have caused an ad slot to decrease in a KPI. The team is very cross functional, working with people from sales to product to finance to data science to engineering.

Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

30% Ad Health & KPI Monitoring 

  • Monitor and optimize ad performance KPIs across mobile apps, ensuring stable and consistent ad health.

  • Conduct in-depth post-release assessments for app updates to identify and address potential impacts on ad metrics.

  • Proactively communicate insights and trends—both opportunities and challenges—to key stakeholders.

 

25% Strategic Growth & Revenue Optimization

  • Develop and execute data-driven strategies to maximize ad revenue and performance across mobile apps.

  • Leverage deep industry knowledge to identify emerging opportunities in programmatic advertising and app monetization.

  • Work with our partnership team to maximize opportunity with monetization partners.

 

20% Root Cause Analysis & Troubleshooting

  • Investigate unexpected fluctuations in ad performance, using advanced analytical methods to identify root causes.

  • Collaborate with technical and business teams to resolve issues and implement preventative measures.

15% Cross Functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with product, design, engineering, and analytics teams to create innovative solutions that enhance user experience and ad yield.

  • Align closely with sales and client teams to integrate app monetization strategies into broader organizational goals.

10% Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire teams and individuals across the organization, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Establish best practices and frameworks for app monetization across the organization.

The Role’s Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business/Data Analytics, Advertising, Marketing, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field.

 

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in digital advertising, app monetization, or programmatic strategy roles.

  • Proven track record of driving ad revenue growth and performance improvement for large-scale mobile apps or digital platforms.

  • Strong experience with programmatic advertising platforms, SSPs, DSPs, and related technologies.

  • 5+ years of team leadership and cross-functional collaboration at a senior level.

 

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:

  • Expertise in mobile app ad tech and programmatic platforms, including GAM, Prebid, Amazon TAM, Open Bidding solutions.

  • Advanced knowledge of advertising metrics (e.g., CPMs, fill rates, impressions per session, viewability).

  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to distill complex data into actionable insights.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across all levels.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and experimentation methodologies.

  • Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and a proactive mindset.
