Job Description

CHEP has implemented a variety of automated machine vision and machine learning based inspection systems to complete the quality inspection of its products. These technologies are deployed and operational globally.

The Vision Systems Engineer will lead all technical problem solving and support activities to achieve quick resolutions to performance challenges with the automated machine vision / machine learning systems. This resource will also assist development and support future projects associated with implementing machine vision and machine learning inspection systems in the CHEP Americas Region.

  • Be the Subject Matter Expert for automated machine vision and machine learning systems deployed within the CHEP Americas Region.
  • Provide on-going maintenance and troubleshooting support to CHEP service centers that will ensure sustained automated inspection system performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automated inspection system performance issues.
  • Lead inspection system quality performance capability improvement programs.
  • Improve regional integration performance to achieve entitlement targets. Ongoing efficiencies are estimated at greater than $500K in regional operations performance.
  • Lead projects to monitor and improve automated inspection system performance, consistency, and predictability.
  • Support automated machine vision and machine learning system integration for new development projects.

CHEP Americas as assigned (US, Canada, LATAM)

Suppliers: 4 (globally)

Authority/ Decision Making

Accountability:

  • Individual to direct and manage the support needs for the Americas (US, Canada, LATAM)
  • Responsible in anticipating challenges in regions and provide strategic plans to address.
  • Responsible for ensuring currently more than $8M in assets remains productive.

Challenges:

  • Requires working extended periods, including weekends during project implementation.
  • Requires working across time zones, cultures, and flexibility to attend meetings outside of normal daytime working hours due to global nature of the team.
  • Provides remote support during off-hours, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Expected travel is 25%.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Engineer
  • Desirable: Computer/Software/Electrical Engineer
  • Functional know-how is critical to this position. Internal certification is needed for initial qualification.

Experience:

  • 2 years Machine vision system specification, deployment, and integration experience
  • 2 years Project management for software deployment projects

Skills and Knowledge:

Mandatory:

  • Deep technical understanding of machine vision technologies such as 3D laser profiling, stereoscopic systems, 2D/3D cameras, lighting techniques, ToF pattern projection, inspection program design, etc.
  • Technical Support experience with machine vision / machine learning systems
  • Technical Training experience with machine vision / machine learning systems
  • Problem solving skills and working under pressure
  • Project Management experience with equipment integration
  • Self-starter / ability to operate without much supervision
  • Experience giving presentations at a leadership level
  • Teamwork

Desirable:

  • Rockwell PLC and Safety PLC programming experience
  • C++ / python programming experience
  • SQL database experience
  • 3D image algorithms experience
  • Ability to work in a Matrix Organization
  • Six-Sigma & Lean methodology
  • Spanish Language Skills
