Position: Virtualization Enterprise Systems Engineer
Leidos National Security Sector is seeking a Virtualization Enterprise Systems Engineer to support the deployment and sustainment of a VMware virtualized system on a VxRail cluster. This role is part of the SMDC RTS Modernization contract for the Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville, AL, supporting a global mission focused on Space and Missile Overwatch. You will implement, support, and maintain VMware ESX infrastructure in a data center environment. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, mission-critical setting. You'll handle infrastructure integration, security compliance, and operations management to ensure high availability and performance.
Primary Responsibilities:

Install and configure VMware vSphere and vSAN on VxRail
-
Perform initial VxRail cluster setup (network, storage, compute resources)
-
Configure vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) for cluster management
-
Deploy and manage VM templates, cloning, and snapshots
-
Monitor cluster health using VxRail Manager, vCenter, and vSAN Health Check
-
Apply updates using VxRail Lifecycle Manager (VxRail LCM)
-
Manage ESXi hosts, vMotion, HA, and DRS settings
-
Plan datastore and storage capacity, including vSAN and external storage integration
-
Conduct backup and disaster recovery planning (Veeam, Dell Data Protection, VMware SRM)
-
Diagnose hardware and software failures (Dell SRS, iDRAC, vROps)
-
Resolve VM performance issues (CPU, memory, storage bottlenecks)
-
Analyze and resolve networking issues (vSS, vDS configurations)
-
Apply DISA STIGs and DoD SRGs for security hardening
-
Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and secure authentication methods (Active Directory integration, MFA)
-
Conduct vulnerability scans and remediation (Tenable Nessus, ACAS, SCAP Compliance Checker)
-
Ensure compliance with RMF/ATO documentation and security requirements
-
Automate administrative tasks using PowerCLI, PowerShell, or Ansible
-
Develop scripts for log analysis, performance tuning, and patch management
-
Provide Level 3/4 support for operational issues
-
Maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, architecture diagrams, and system inventories
-
Train junior engineers and operational staff on VMware best practices
-
Collaborate with Dell Support for complex issue resolution
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Management Information Systems, or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience (additional IT experience, training, and/or certifications may substitute degree requirement)

US Citizen with an active DoD Secret security clearance
-
DoD-8570 IAT II certification (e.g., CompTIA Sec+ or higher)
-
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Advanced Professional Certification, or MS Azure Suite certification
-
Expertise in VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSphere Update Manager, vSphere Lifecycle Manager, HA, and DRS
-
Strong knowledge of SANs, Fibre Channel fabric, vSphere Standard/Distributed Switches
-
Proficiency in PowerShell, PowerCLI, and Bash scripting
-
Experience with enterprise monitoring tools (Splunk, SolarWinds Orion, Trellix/McAfee ESS)
-
Familiarity with server rack hardware, firmware, and secure boot technologies
-
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
-
Ability to travel up to 25% as needed
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in government contracting or defense environment
-
Additional VMware or cloud certifications (e.g., VCAP, AWS, Azure)
-
Familiarity with security compliance frameworks and RMF processes

Pay Range:Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
