About the Position

We are looking for an experienced, talented Video Director who can partner with our established in-house Producer to elicit unscripted and impactful video footage of our colleagues that will educate Streeters and help recruit new interns and hires. 

Together, you will work with a variety of Jane Streeters who are talented in their fields, but do not have interview experience. Over your years of experience, you should have developed a deep “bag of tricks” to put people at ease who are not comfortable in front of the camera, or who have perhaps overprepared and sound scripted. We will rely on you to be a creative authority in the room who can inspire all sorts of personalities to let their guard down and speak comfortably and naturally.

You should enjoy the idea of showing up to a blank canvas and meeting with stakeholders from across the firm who usually approach our team with a rough idea and some goals in mind. You will work closely with the rest of the team to develop a creative vision, storyboard, and pre-script that will help achieve those goals, while considering things like: 

  • What appeals to the target audience? Who do they want to hear from? 
  • How should we engage with each subject to get the desired responses and reactions? Is a traditional Q&A format the best approach, or would something else work better? Will a pre-interview help or hurt? 
  • Will this setting, interviewer, format, play to the strengths of this interview subject? 
  • What are the must-have key messages and soundbites?

After the filming is completed, you will help us adjust the script of the video in post-production based on the footage gathered and our project goals, and guide the editing process from radio cut to final version. 

We are looking for someone who can anticipate and catch potential issues, both in the nuances of what subjects are saying in the moment, and in post-production. Your creative agility will also come in handy as we interpret the feedback from the stakeholders and identify solutions based on priors.

About You

  • 8+ years of experience in directing, ideally in a brand marketing or recruitment context
  • Proactively innovative with excellent storytelling and creative vision abilities; knows how to get subjects to relax in front of the camera and deliver key soundbites organically
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment that doesn’t put too much stock in hierarchy or titles
  • Confident in your expertise and ability to make creative decisions, while also remaining humble and willing to adapt to changes in project requirements
  • Strong project manager; can meet deadlines and deliver projects on time
  • Have a portfolio of work that demonstrates strong visual and editorial judgment, and an attention to detail and appreciation for pacing, narrative, and structure
  • Can script videos with an understanding of what can work in edit or not; familiar with the basic tools and techniques for video production and editing
  • Ability to shoot on cinema cameras, and thoughtfully consider light and sound when choosing locations, are a plus
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards for video content is preferred
