As VP/SVP, Origination Strategy, you will work closely with Molly Gibson, other scientists within her Pioneering Business Unit (PBU), and stakeholders across the Flagship enterprise. Molly’s PBU is focused on founding, building, and growing companies at the intersection of AI and Science, including companies like Generate Biomedicines and Lila Sciences. Your central responsibility will be to support development of company strategy for new platform companies as well as their connection to a larger portfolio strategy within the PBU and across Flagship. You will help ideate, pressure-test, and refine novel value creation hypotheses connecting scientific and AI platforms to market need, including supporting fundraising and partnerships. You will work with ultimate entrepreneurial drive, speed, and creativity. You will work across the Flagship ecosystem and other PBUs to drive synergies and ensure collaborative connection to Flagship-wide initiatives, as well as supporting operations, working norms and culture within the PBU.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, evaluate, and pressure-test value creation hypotheses that connect novel scientific and AI platforms to market opportunities, including competitive analysis, growth trajectories, and financial modeling
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration between PBU teams and broader Flagship ecosystem to identify synergies, optimize resource allocation, and accelerate value creation across the portfolio
  • Partner closely with scientific teams to translate cutting-edge research into compelling commercial opportunities, ensuring strategic alignment between scientific capabilities and market needs
  • Support fundraising preparation and execution, including development of pitch materials, financial models, and strategic narratives that effectively communicate value proposition
  • Support operational excellence within the PBU by optimizing working norms, processes, and cultural initiatives that foster innovation and collaboration – including collaboration with Flagship operations teams (Finance, IP, IT, HR, and Talent)
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering an entrepreneurial culture that emphasizes both individual growth and collective success

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success combining strategic finance, business development, and entrepreneurial ventures, ideally in biotech, life sciences, and/or deep tech sectors. Advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD) strongly preferred. Experience in venture capital, management consulting, or investment banking with exposure to scientific/technical companies is valuable. The candidate must have a passion for novel science and should be operationally savvy.

COMPENSATION
