As the Vice President of Project Leadership, you will play a pivotal role in championing the use of advanced computational approaches in clinical development and help redefine traditional paradigms of drug development. As a visionary and strategic leader, you will help develop and execute the compound strategy, drive innovation, and optimize program execution. Your influence will ensure seamless communication across all levels of the organization while maximizing the value of each compound throughout its lifecycle - balancing speed, cost, and impact.
You will lead and manage a team of Project Team Leaders to drive the success of our pipeline compounds. You will take ownership of at least one project/program team, guiding the overall direction and ensuring the timely delivery of critical drug development initiatives.
In This Role You Will:
- Cultivate a high-performing team by providing mentorship, guidance, and clear direction to the Project Leaders, ensuring accountability and clarity across all assigned programs
- Collaborate with stakeholders to refine and implement the strategic direction of key programs. Drive alignment and facilitate strategic decisions to accelerate development and ensure program success
- Foster strong partnerships with functional leaders, Recursion leadership, and external collaborators to cultivate a high-performing, collaborative team environment that drives sustainable success
- Establish and improve processes that support the drug discovery and development portfolio
- Partner with key stakeholders, including Finance and functional leadership, to ensure programs are appropriately resourced, adhering to specified timelines and budgets for optimal program delivery
- Contribute strategic insights into the assessments of external opportunities for the drug discovery and development pipeline
The Team You’ll Join
As the VP of Project Leadership, you will work within the Development team, reporting directly to the Chief R&D Officer and Chief Commercial Offer. The Development Team is an empowered, execution-minded group of clinical development professionals responsible for translating and industrializing Recursion’s innovative science to patients. Our team leverages cutting-edge clinical technology to accelerate drug development, optimize trial design, and enhance patient outcomes. From deploying AI-powered platforms for data analysis and predictive modeling to integrating real-world evidence and biomarker discovery tools, we ensure our clinical programs are both efficient and precise.
The Experience You’ll Need
- A PhD or MD in life sciences or related scientific discipline with deep expertise in drug development
- 15+ years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience with a proven track record of advancing drug development programs
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams while driving strategic execution
- Expertise in cross-functional drug development, computational approaches and data-driven decision-making
- Successful track record of leading programs from early-stage development through NDA filing
- Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of the drug development processes and deliverables at all stages of development
- Exceptional executive-level communication and stakeholder management
- Strong financial and resource management skills to optimize program delivery
Working Location:
This position is ideally based at our office located in New York City. Please note that we are a hybrid environment and ask that employees spend 50% of their time in the office.

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is:
- Developing: $315,000
- Skilled: $350,000
- Expert: $385,000

You will also be eligible for bonuses and equity compensation + our comprehensive benefits package for United States based candidates. The range displayed on each job posting reflects target ranges for US new hire salaries and is determined by job, level, and market factors.
