Vice President and General Manager, National Space will lead the National Space Strategic Business Unit (SBU) within the Space Systems organization of the Space & Mission Systems (SMS) sector responsible for program management, technology advancement, and new business development activities to meet National Space customer needs and commitments in the Integrated Business Plan. Responsibilities also include collaborating with peers within the Space Systems organization, sector executive leadership team members, and colleagues across BAE Systems, Inc.
The National Space Strategic Business Unit works with members of the intelligence and defense communities to deliver space systems that drive mission success and provide resilient mission-level solutions to meet the customer's greatest challenges.
What You'll Do:
- Report to the Senior Vice President for Space Systems.
- Serve as a key member of the SMS Executive Leadership Team (ELT); ability to demonstrate a First Team mindset - prioritizing support of fellow leaders and building trusting relationships with the ELT as the top leadership priority.
- Manage successful execution of the National Space business, delivering profitable growth and efficient operations.
- Partner with National Space customers and stakeholders to achieve mission priorities and define next-generation architectures.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Space Systems organization to identify common investment opportunities and leverage synergies to benefit customers and the SMS sector.
- Drive organic growth of National Space business through development and implementation of growth strategies aligned with the SMS strategic plan.
- Lead a team of diverse professionals fostering engagement within an inclusive work environment.
- Lead the professional development of the National Space staff and provide appropriate growth opportunities and mentoring.
- Guide high priority business pursuits from assessment through proposal. Provide overall direction for all aspects of the pursuit, capture and proposal execution.
- Participate in the development of strategic planning, analysis, and decision making for expansion and growth of SMS. Recommend objectives and long-range plans to achieve growth and financial profitability of the overall company.
- Participate in the development of the annual Operations Plan to set goals for sales, profit and bookings. Use this plan to set budgets and rates for the subsequent years. Manage the business unit to ensure Operations Plan goals and budgets are met.
- Lead the communication of goals and strategies so that our people understand how we are performing and where they can contribute to the success of the business unit.
- Ensure that all business is conducted using the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, regulations, company directives; live sector core values of uncompromising integrity, being close to its customers, behaving like owners, focusing on attention to detail, and being innovative.
- Interface with BAE Systems, Inc. executives relative to sector integration into the corporate structure.
- Perform such individual assignments as directed; and maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working four days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- 40% travel and local commute between SMS campuses and other possible non-SMS locations may be required.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in an Aerospace-related field with fifteen (15) or more years directly applicable and progressively more responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- 10+ years of experience working with our national defense and intelligence community sponsor organizations.
- A solid understanding of National Space mission and operations with relevant industry and government relationships.
- Excellent communication skills to support interfaces with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to effectively interact with customers and governmental figures at the highest levels.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
