Leidos Maritime System Solutions (MSS) is seeking a Vehicle Systems Engineer to join a growing, fast-paced engineering research, development, testing and evaluation team at Naval Information Warfare Center, Pacific.
The selected candidate will be part of a world-class team responsible for development, manufacture and test of electro-mechanical devices for use with UUVs and other undersea systems and maritime mission applications. This individual will work closely with the government-industry engineering team and program leadership through all project phases. Work may involve prototypes, small quantity proof of concept, and low-rate initial production systems.
This mid-grade position requires the candidate to hold a Secret Clearance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design methods and approaches for integrating advanced payload technologies into Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs).
- Develop software and hardware to modify and enhance UUV behaviors and controls, including execution of sensor specific commands and tasking.
- Work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver innovative capabilities under a rapid research and development timeline.
- Conduct multi-faceted testing (integration, regression, unit-level, etc.) to ensure UUV reliability and performance, and proper operation of new payload technologies and capabilities.
- Troubleshoot complex UUV software and hardware issues and develop alternative solutions while considering the impact of that change(s) on other system components and sub-systems.
- Participate in at-sea test events to collect and analysis real-world engineering data in support of improvements and engineering design changes to the vehicle and/or associated components and subsystems.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with electrical, optical, and RF design, development, and test.
- Experience working with electronics test equipment (spectrum analyzers, multimeter, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Experience testing hardware and software in various testing environments (integration, regression, unit-level, etc.).
- Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with unmanned systems or robotics.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret hardware and software documents.
- Experience with Windows and Unix Operating Systems.
- Experience with oceanographic instrumentation.
- Self-starter able to work independently and in small multi-disciplinary technical teams.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced work environment.
- Skilled in communicating technical information both verbally and written.
- Strong system troubleshooting skills.
- Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant technical discipline and 4 – 8 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with undersea and maritime systems.
- Proficiency in Python, Java and Unix/Linx bash scripting is preferred.
- Master of Science degree in a relevant technical discipline and 2-6 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to work on a small boat (i.e. not susceptible to motion sickness).
- Willing to travel for short periods of time to support project requirements.

Pay Range:Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
