The Vector Control Supervisor will be based at one of Amentum locations in Iraq and will serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position is a working supervisory position that will be responsible for leading a mixed team of Foreign National (FN) and Local National (LN) employees and take ownership of all Site vector and pest control services. This position will report to the Site Services Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
DUTIES:
- Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
- Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
- Perform pest and vector control services as required for controlling:
- Small rodents.
- Insects.
- Termites.
- Other animals deemed to be a problem within the environment of Baghdad.
- Perform pest and vector control services as required for controlling pests immediately outside the site if these pests are impacting operations within the site or U.S. government (USG) staff stationed immediately outside the site.
- Ensure all insecticides and chemicals meet Department of State (DOS) Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for safety.
- Develop and submit a pest control plan to the Site Services Manager within seven days of contract start. This plan will be submitted in final form to the USG within ten days of contract start.
- Make revisions to the pest control plan as directed by the USG.
- Be responsible for the application of chemical solution and/or powders or toxic gases and the placing of mechanical traps to kill pests that infest rooms, work areas, buildings, and surrounding areas,
- Be responsible for the placement of poisonous paste or bait and mechanical traps where pests are present.
- Be responsible for the cleaning of areas that harbor pests using rakes, brooms, shovels, and mops.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections.
- Report any problems or lack of compliance with Statement of Work (SOW) to the Site Services manager.
- Assist in developing the Statement of Work (SOW) when requested.
- Maintain effective, timely, and respectful communication and interaction with other employees and managers and support other organizations.
- Perform other administrative tasks including ordering material, inventorying, and scheduling work.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data for report preparation and submits written reports.
- Maintain the appropriate technical library and record-keeping which documents all procedures necessary to accomplish assigned responsibilities.
- Be responsible for facility custodianship of vector and pest control work area and management of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Take initiative to analyze a situation and make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and electrical codes.
- Evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:
- Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:
- Five (5) years’ general vector and pest control experience.
- Three (3) years’ experience in an overseas setting.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Applicant must have valid Driver’s License and a DoD Certification with Categories 6, 7 and 8; or a valid states Certified Applicators License with the DoD equivalent.
- Must possess driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity
- Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 15 months of remaining validity AND with at least 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining.
- Security Vetting: Already possess an active DoD or DoS Secret clearance or be able to obtain a favorable Secret clearance prior to being hired. Must maintain eligibility for the duration of the contract.
- Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
- Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
DESIRED:
- Training and experience with SHEM and OSHA vector and pest control agents.
- Previous out of home country experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.
- Experience working with Amentum /PAE.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of principles and processes involved in vector and pest control functions at an overseas facility.
- Experience providing excellent customer services.
- Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.
- Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
- Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:
This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
