Creating better technology the open source way
The Role

About the Job

Red Hat is on a mission to be the catalyst in communities of customers, contributors, and partners creating better technology the open source way. To help fulfill that mission, the User Experience Design (UXD) team is looking for a User Experience Designer to participate in all aspects of the design process from participating in design thinking workshops through creating design deliverables to validating designs with stakeholders.

The UXD team helps make Red Hat products easy—and enjoyable—for all people to use. Our global team of researchers, designers, content designers, and developers work together to bridge the technical world to the human world with intuitive and approachable product experiences. While each of us has unique skills and talents, we all agree that the best ideas come from diverse minds and fresh perspectives. Whether we’re collaboratively supporting Red Hat’s product portfolio, exchanging ideas in upstream communities, or crunching code for PatternFly (Red Hat’s open source design system), our focus on teamwork, empathy, and transparency play a key role in building products our users love.

What You Will Do

We’re looking for someone with UX design experience who can work with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, and product managers to deliver desirable software experiences for Red Hat. As a User Experience Designer, you will:

  • Consider an end-to-end user experience that spans product onboarding, usage, and support

  • Work with a team of researchers, designers, and front-end developers to build user experiences in your product area

  • Partner with stakeholders across Red Hat to gather business requirements and present recommendations

  • Participate in design thinking, journey mapping, or other hands-on workshops to elicit requirements, identify priorities, and inform design

  • Perform or participate in planning user research to inform or validate design decisions

  • Understand and communicate the information architecture, workflows, and processes surrounding the user experience

  • Create mockups, wireframes, and other design deliverables using Figma, Miro, and other design tools

  • Build relationships with developers and product managers to support successful implementation

  • Identify usability issues and make solid recommendations for improvement

  • Actively participate in PatternFly, our community-built design system, as both a user and contributor

What You Will Bring

  • Experience advocating for a high-quality user experience through every step of the process and across team boundaries

  • A drive to collaborate across teams and to explain your ideas and process to other people

  • Experience using data to inform design decisions

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations, needs, or requirements

  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates your process and skills demonstrating a proactive approach and natural curiosity in the work you do

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in interaction design, visual design, human computer interaction, human factors, computer science, or a closely related area

  • 2+ years of experience with designing user experience for applications

  • Proven track record of creating designs and delivering high-quality results on schedule

  • Adaptable to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles, modifying work methods in response to new information to accomplish organizational goals

  • Experience with agile development

  • Experience with open source projects
