Manages daily operations associated with underwriting and new business workflow and our book of business. Ensures state and federal requirements and service standards are met. Manages underwriting team by providing guidance, direction, training, and performance management. Leads strategic projects, collaborates to implement innovative new systems and solutions, and recommends changes to risk management protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages daily operations associated with underwriting processes and workflow.

Monitors and oversees quality and service across all underwriting processes, data sources, and distribution channels to ensure the integrity of our underwriting programs.

Oversees the development and implementation of new and/or revised underwriting guidelines, manuals and procedures and communicates changes to team.

Responds to and resolves escalated underwriting service requests or issues for agents, applicants, vendors, and internal teams.

Leads strategic projects with underwriting subject matter expertise to achieve corporate goals for profitability and growth.

Collaborates with consultants and vendor partners to design, test, and implement new systems, tools, or enhancements.

Evaluates complex medical, personal, and financial information via 2nd signature review, escalations, or production underwriting caseload.

Oversees and monitors the workload and performance of the team.

Conducts reviews and provides coaching. Interviews, hires, and recommends salary adjustments for team members.

Develops team expertise and assists with succession planning, including identifying talent and implementing development plans for critical positions.

Supports diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Fosters an innovative culture, including supporting new ideas and providing guidance on potential changes.

Completes regular quality audits of the underwriting team and third-party support vendors.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The education and experience below are required for the job unless labelled as preferred:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in required in insurance, business administration, or medical field preferred

Ten years of experience in life or health underwriting or related experience, including

Prior people leadership experience

Completion of LOMA coursework, CLU designation, and/or ALU exams preferred
