Overview of Position:
The ultrasonographer assistant works under the direct supervision of the ultrasonographer and is responsible for basic supportive care to specified patient/families. This position assists in providing radiographic services to support the organizational mission of high quality, efficient care with emphasis on serving the unique needs of each customer. This position will emphasize an excellent customer experience in a clean and safe environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Assists with customer service issues by collecting applicable information and directing concerns appropriately.
2. Prepares patients for ultrasound exams in accordance with established protocols.
3. Responsible for preparing all related documents for ordered exams.
4. Enters, modifies, and cancels orders as requested by staff sonographer.
5. Maintains stocking of accessory supplies, patient care items, and cleanliness of general ultrasound areas, as well as submitting inventory requests in an accurate and timely manner.
6. Assists with transportation of patients to various areas of the hospital for ultrasound exams.
7. Maintains working knowledge of medical terminology and current applications in the field of ultrasonography through seminars, educational programs, and self-study.
8. Responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks and direct patient care activities- assist non-technical and indirect patient care activities under the supervision of a registered sonographer.
9. Ensures filing cabinets, computer and office area is locked and/or secured to prevent breach of confidentiality or unpermitted access to information.
10. Effectively uses functions of various software systems (HIS, RIS, and PACS) to process, access and distribute imaging- related information.
11. Communications effectively with patients by both listening and speaking with them and their families.
12. Equipment utilization and submitting work orders if necessary.
13. Compliance with all regulatory guidelines and policies.
14. Assists with implementation of established safety regulations and required to respond correctly in emergency situations including: code blue, contrast media reactions, emergency operations, and trauma alerts.
15. The willingness and interest to cross train in other areas to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.
16. Supports the philosophy and objectives of Genesis healthcare system and demonstrates these to patients, guests, and hospital staff.
17. Perform other duties, responsibilities and/or special projects as assigned by imaging manager, coordinators, or designated staff sonographer to maintain section and Department function.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Must be graduate of accredited ultrasound program
3. Upon date of hire employee must obtain certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the appropriate specialty (OB/Gyn, Abdominal) or the ARRT ultrasound pathway within 3 months.
4. CPR Certified
5. Demonstrates solid interpersonal communication skills to include written, verbal and telephone etiquette.
6. Demonstrates technical skills to complete assignments, experience with word, excel, and other office equipment.
7. Demonstrates the ability to learn department specific computer programs.
8. Demonstrates the ability to complete projects within a productive timeframe.
9. Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed, yet work well with others.
10. Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve, organize, prioritize, function with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.
11. Demonstrates flexibility with change to include processes, priorities, workflow, and responsibilities.
