Brown & Brown is seeking a Technology Counsel to join our growing team. The Technology Counsel will support the Company’s legal and risk management program by advising on data security, privacy laws, and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity regulations, while providing legal guidance on technology transactions, intellectual property, and compliance with global data protection laws. Additionally, the role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, lead internal training initiatives, and assist with incident response to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks related to technology and data governance.
How You Will Contribute:

Support the Company’s Third- and Fourth-Party risk management program by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating information technology contracts.

Collaborate with and support enterprise risk management, regulatory, data privacy, and compliance teams in developing, implementing, and managing strategies for compliance and risk mitigation related to global data protection laws.

Stay informed about and provide guidance on emerging U.S. and international AI and cybersecurity regulatory requirements and enforcement actions.

Assist with developing and monitoring the Company’s intellectual property portfolio.

Review software as a service (SaaS) and technology vendor agreements.

Provide legal support on technology transactions including software licensing, SaaS agreements, and cloud service agreements, ensuring alignment with business objectives while managing risk.

Review and negotiate technology partnerships and joint ventures, ensuring that intellectual property, data privacy, and cybersecurity protections are adequately addressed.

Lead internal training and awareness initiatives on legal, privacy, and cybersecurity obligations related to cyber-technology, including AI..

Support incident response teams helping to ensure legal compliance in breach notification and regulatory filings.

Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

A minimum of 5 years of experience related to cyber-technologies or cybersecurity. Cybersecurity issues, including regulatory compliance, incident response, data protection, vulnerability management, supply chain security, and insider threats.

Understanding of industry regulations such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), New York Department of Financial Services (NY DFS) Part 500, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cybersecurity Rules, California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and various state-specific privacy laws.

Experience in handling regulatory matters, risk management, and compliance.

Experience reviewing Third- and Fourth-Party technology contracts.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across divisions, including educating, influencing, persuading, and negotiating with various stakeholders.

Brings a diversity of thought to the team, contributing to the overall success of the enterprise.

Strong analytical skills required to monitor and enhance enterprise success and growth.

Experience delivering legal services on cybersecurity issues, including regulatory compliance, incident response, data protection, vulnerability management, supply chain security, and insider threats.
