Technical Manager
Huntsman is seeking a Technical Manager supporting the Polyurethanes Division located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This position will report to the Technology & Innovation Director.
Job Scope
- Manage a portfolio of Technology and Innovation projects.
- Lead a team of scientists and technicians.
- Collaborate globally with team members and support functions to ensure projects are progressing according to milestones and customer deliverables.
As the Technical Manager your tasks and responsibilities will be:
- To ensure that all work undertaken is carried out in full compliance with Huntsman’s EH&S procedures and policies and strive for continuous improvement in safety performance.
- To manage his/her team by setting annual personal objectives, reviewing performance including addressing individual needs for coaching and development.
- To define and manage the development of projects into new materials and products, decide on their most appropriate applications and define the vale proposition for the relevant applications.
- To drive the market implementation through management of market assessments, development, product launch and commercialization for new products in cooperation with the marketing team and ensure governance project management process is followed.
- Network on a global basis with colleagues on the other regional technology & innovation teams and the global research team to exchange technology that has global scope.
- About 25% travel is required.
- To ensure that the right technical and application skills are available or being developed to allow successful development and implementation of the new materials and products.
- Ensure all team members perform in accordance with Huntsman’s environment health and safety policies, as well Huntsman’s corporate compliance and ethics policies.
- To prepare technical overviews, summaries, and information materials for integrating/hand-over the developed materials or products into the appropriate commercialization teams.
- To establish and build network with external partners as appropriate, e.g. with other Huntsman divisions, Universities, machine suppliers.
Required Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in science or engineering.
- 10+ years of experience with a demonstrated track record of success in product development and new product introduction in a formulated polymer product business.
- 5+ years of experience managing a team of scientists.
Skills and Knowledge
- The incumbent, due to his/her experience, must be able to switch back and forth between tactical and strategic issues.
- Professional communication, writing and presentation skills, are required.
- The ability to work directly with customers, suppliers, or partners in the execution of projects.
- The ability to professionally interact with senior business personnel on a frequent basis and executive management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference for a Ph.D.
- Experience with a broad range of polymer material technologies is desired. Experience with polyurethane materials is preferred.
- A demonstrated comprehension of business assessment principles, business case development and technical strategy processes are highly preferred.
