Technical Buyer – Technical Glass Products – Perrysburg, OH
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Technical Buyer will independently perform the full range of purchasing duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of TGP. This will include material sourcing, supplier development, inventory control, and process improvements to decrease total cost of ownership. This position will work closely with other internal departments to ensure that the company’s finished products meet our customers’ expectations of superior quality and on time delivery.
What You Will Do:
- Strategically source and procure raw materials, finished goods, and services with strict attention to procedural and quality requirements
- Promptly process requests for quotes, requisitions and purchase orders
- Develop strong relationships and actively manage suppliers to ensure contractual compliance, on time delivery and quality conformance of all goods and services
- Create strategic replenishment requisitions focusing on optimal minimum / maximum stocking levels.
- Drive supplier performance improvements by conducting supplier reviews and managing corrective actions for quality issues in support of MRB process and Quality team
- Accurately maintain the procurement inventory system, including the item master settings
- Monitor inventory and create strategic replenishment orders focusing on optimal minimum / maximum inventory levels
- Manage the supplier-managed inventory process, drive supplier performance improvements and build relationships.
- Analyze total cost of ownership, suggest cost reduction strategies, and source new suppliers
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal team members
- Support Engineering, Marketing and Estimating by obtaining quotes for bid packages
- Work closely with Accounting to promptly resolve invoice discrepancies
- Support Production, Materials, Receiving, Engineering and Quality teams with questions impacting production performance
- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of MRO materials and services to ensure timely availability and minimize downtime, while negotiating favorable terms with suppliers to optimize cost efficiency
What You Need to Succeed:
- 3+ years of procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Degree preferred, specifically in supply chain, business management, or manufacturing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate independent judgment and initiative
- Strong organizational and project management skills combined with a close attention to detail
- Ability to manage personal workload and prioritize multiple tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Driven self-starter dedicated to continual process improvement
- Creative mindset to resolve challenges
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred, with a particular emphasis on Excel for data analysis and creating detailed reports to support purchasing decisions and strategy development
- MRP/ERP experience a plus, with the ability to efficiently manage procurement processes, track inventory, and generate analytical reports
- Technical understanding of assigned commodities; drawings, functionality, specifications
- Ability to lift, on occasion, up to 25 pounds
