Job Description Summary:

The Technical Art focus specializes in creating and editing the technical components of artistic visual elements used in mobile slot games. Includes use of programming skills and technical tools to modify art assets for technical viability, performance, efficiency, and proper implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that art and animation are enhanced using our technical processes, systems and software.
  • Ensures that art and animation are not compromised by the limitations of technical processes.
  • Experienced in area of specialization.
  • Works directly with artists and programmers to develop software tools and scripts that enhance the creation of art and animation within proprietary software.
  • Understands how to prepare and implement technical aspects of art within the creative and technical specifications of the software product.
  • Writes low level software code and scripts necessary for art implementation.
  • Creates and implements artwork on assigned portions of software products, typically in modules requiring technical art features.
  • Creates and/or edits the technical components of artistic visual elements used in electronic games or software products.
  • Uses knowledge and experience with programming languages and 3D graphics packages such as 3ds Max and Maya to modify art assets for technical viability and performance within game engines and/or software code.
  • Reviews import settings and technical requirements to ensure proper implementation and efficiency of art assets.
  • Evaluates and monitors art asset rendering and modifies models to enhance technical performance.
  • Interacts with producers, developers, and/or managers to translate semi-complex technical information to stakeholders.
  • Supports the determination of approaches and the development of new or enhanced technical tools.
  • Mentors less experienced artists on technical approach and optimization.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Arts in art/animation or technical degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Required Experience:  At least 3 years previous experience as a technical artist with a considerable amount of technical responsibility and leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Deep practical knowledge of what Unity can and can’t do especially regarding the UI system, animations and animation controllers, the particle system, shaders and materials, optimizations and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in Photoshop, After Effects, Unity
  • Understanding of asset management and version systems
  • General understanding of mobile game development in Unity
  • Understanding of how to optimize art for target platform
  • Scripting and/or general tool creation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of production tools (Jira, Confluence, Stash/Git)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office

  • Portfolio (website or blog required for pre-interview)

Bonus XP:

  • C# scripting knowledge
  • Display tree rendering and object organization
  • 3DS Max
  • Animation
