What you’ll do ​& Who you are

You will join a multi-disciplinary team in our expanding Product & Tech Motors domain in Amsterdam as a Technical Lead in a hybrid working setup, reporting to your team Engineering Manager. Your team will help customers to both buy and sell cars on our platform, and also help build our professional proposition for car dealers. All using modern technologies in a microservices architecture, with a heavy emphasis on CI/CD.

We take a data-driven, experimental and Agile approach to product development using insights-driven feature research. 

What you'll do:

• Architect and develop software solutions that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.

• Produce clean, efficient, and well-tested code adhering to industry best practices.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to other developers.

• Drive improvements in all areas of the software lifecycle: coding, processes, testing, tools, and  collaboration.

Additional expectations as Tech Lead:

• Serve as the primary source of technical knowledge for your team's scope of the platform

• Collaborate with your team leadership to provide technical guidance for decision-making.

• Partner with other technical leads and architects to promote technical excellence across the platform

• Help developers grow in their technical knowledge, delegate tasks that facilitate this and collaborate with the EM to constantly improve the engineering culture in the team

• Identify and define technical improvements and build a technical vision and strategy in collaboration with the team.

• Be capable of explaining complex technical subjects to non-technical stakeholders, and be involved in business decisions as the technical representative.

Who you are:

You have experience in software development in the online arena with a large user base. At least 8+ years of full-time employment on large and distributed systems. You live and breathe Agile development, focus on delivering, and like to take an active role in improving how we work. 

You already live in the Netherlands and are entitled to work here.

Core Skills:

• Experience running large systems written in JVM languages like Java, Kotlin or preferably Scala.

• Experience with microservices architectures.

• Experience with observability tools such as Kibana, Grafana or Prometheus or DataDog or other cloud solutions

• Experience running services in cloud environments like AWS or GCP.

• Experience with relational databases (like MySQL) and NoSQL (like Cassandra).

• Familiarity with designing REST API’s.

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with Kafka, ElasticSearch, RabbitMQ, and Terraform.

• Experience with Node.js.

Other Skills:

• A motivated approach to work.

• You are familiar with experimentation, monitoring, and incremental value delivery. 

• You have experience working in an Agile, outcome-driven environment where you experiment, fail and iterate fast.

• You have a continuous improvement mindset, challenging the status quo.

• A user-first approach to development, thinking critically about how features will be used in real-world scenarios.

• You are familiar with the T-shape skill development concept and willing to learn adjacent disciplines.

• You have experience communicating proposals, status updates and solutions to colleagues, team members and collaborators.

• A commitment to learning, staying updated on industry trends, and exploring creative solutions while addressing edge cases.
