Job Description
As a Tech Lead at Entain's In-House Studios, you will play a crucial role in leading your team to deliver exceptional gaming products. Combining technical expertise with leadership, you will oversee the development efforts, ensuring seamless integration of front-end and back-end components. Your focus will depend on team composition, contributing directly to either front-end development using JavaScript or back-end development using C++.
In this role, you will act as the primary technical decision-maker within your team, shaping its direction, managing team members (including Software Engineers and SDETs), and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely work. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with the Principal Engineer, you will ensure that your team’s output aligns with technical standards and broader business objectives. Your ability to code, manage, and make sound decisions will be pivotal in driving the success of your team and products.

- Oversee the team’s technical development, ensuring smooth collaboration between front-end and back-end efforts
- Write and review code, contributing directly to either front-end development in JavaScript or back-end development in C++, depending on team needs
- Manage and mentor team members, including Software Engineers and SDETs, fostering their growth and building a high-performing, collaborative team
- Support SDETs in integrating QA processes into the development cycle, ensuring alignment with QA standards set by the Principal SDET
- Provide technical leadership, making key decisions on architecture, tools, and processes to ensure scalable and maintainable solutions
- Act as the team’s primary decision-maker, balancing project requirements, technical feasibility, and team capacity
- Collaborate with the Principal Engineer to implement and maintain best practices and align team output with technical standards
- Work closely with the Principal SDET to ensure quality processes and standards are upheld in all team deliverables
- Report progress, challenges, and successes to the Engineering Manager, ensuring transparency and effective communication
- Proactively identify and resolve blockers to ensure timely delivery of projects
- Advocate for and implement technical improvements that enhance performance, scalability, and efficiency
- Ensure front-end and back-end codebases work cohesively, maintaining a unified technical architecture
- Develop products that meet the stringent technical and regulatory standards of regulated gaming markets
Qualifications
- Proven expertise in either front-end development using JavaScript (including modern standards) or back-end development using C++
- Strong understanding of the integration between front-end and back-end systems in complex architectures
- Experience leading and managing development teams, including mentoring Software Engineers and managing SDETs
- Familiarity with QA practices and tools, with the ability to support the integration of QA processes into development cycles
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
- Advanced knowledge of source control software (e.g., Git, Perforce) and modern development tools
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising with engineers, managers, and other stakeholders
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in software engineering and QA, including testing, documentation, and deployment
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions within deadlines
- Degree-level education or equivalent in a relevant field, with significant experience in software engineering and team leadership.
