Position Summary: 2025 is a very exciting year for Leaf Home! As we continue growing our business, we are looking for a Tax Manager who is passionate about solving interesting problems to join our team and help scale our business. This role will work closely with a stellar and tight-knit team that has decades of combined financial experience in investment banking, M&A, FP&A, Controllership, and Big 4 Audit.
The Tax Manager will be exposed to nearly all financial activities and operational complexities involving multiple product lines and legal entities. This role owns the domestic and international tax operations and collaborates closely with our accounting, finance, HR, and legal teams. This position plays a critical role in enhancing our financial processes and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage domestic tax operations, including maintenance of federal and state tax accounts, annual filings, and payments, in collaboration with external tax advisors.
  • Manage international tax operations (Canada), including corporate income tax, GST/HST, and transfer pricing matters, in collaboration with external tax advisors.
  • Manage tax aspects of month-end closes, including tax accruals, reconciliations, and analysis.
  • Oversee indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, and address external and internal inquiries.
  • Assist and coordinate with other tax and corporate finance functions as needed.
  • Coordinate with legal and payroll for state tax matters and registrations.
  • Actively manage and update the tax calendar and notice trackers for all state and local tax obligations and government inquiries.
  • Coordinate tax projects and supervise external consultants as needed.
  • Partner with business and finance leadership to execute state and local tax planning strategies and support overall business objectives
  • Monitor current and proposed state and local tax law changes to identify and assess the impact on the organization.
  • Provide general state and local tax support to other corporate and business groups.
  • Assist with general accounting operations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Experience and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation is required.
  • 7+ years of relevant tax experience including a blend of public practice at Big 4 or large national firms and industry experience.
  • CPA preferred
  • Expert knowledge of tax laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels,
  • Ability to juggle various work activities and shift their attention from one task to another to meet the demands of different stakeholders without "dropping the ball."
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy, team-oriented environment and have a "roll up your sleeves" and "win every day" mentality.
  • Hold oneself accountable and responsible while being self-driven in accomplishing goals.
  • Detail-oriented and can focus on the task at hand by finding the most efficient and effective pathway to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels to communicate with internal and external stakeholders articulately.
  • Ability to logically connect ideas, scrutinize and evaluate arguments, find inconsistencies and errors in work, and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to provide timely and empathetic service through all communication channels keeping peer and customer needs first.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and/or Access).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Certifications:

  • Master's degree in Taxation.
  • CPA designation.
  • Experience with Avalara, other tax software, and NetSuite.


Travel Requirements:

  • No travel required.


Overtime/Additional Hours Requirements:

  • Additional hours may be required (exempt positions).


Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Performs indoor work in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
