Point72’s Tax team oversees income tax issues for various hedge, PE, and VC funds, management companies, high net worth individuals, and tax-exempt organizations. We conduct tax research and manage all tax-related projects with external counsel, public accounting firms, and within Point72. The Tax team coordinates with Big Four accounting firms to prepare and review partnership, corporate, individual, international, and state returns.

What you’ll do

The Point72 Tax team is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead all domestic and international tax efforts with respect to its core asset management companies. Specifically, you will:

  • Lead the US tax compliance process for Point72’s management company structure, consisting of US partnerships and S corporations, foreign disregarded entities, and controlled foreign corporations, ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Oversee non-US tax compliance and provision workstreams across 10+ jurisdictions
  • Provide tax advice cross-functionally with respect to matters such as employee compensation structures, R&D and software development, capital expenditures, new office expansion, executive aircraft, Pillar Two, and transfer pricing considerations on an ad-hoc basis, with a strong focus on  the impact of taxable business operations that flow to the personal tax returns of business owners
  • Represent the tax team in meetings with other functions across the firm, including senior management
  • Review tax workpapers with a focus on identifying new opportunities for automation and efficiency, and collaborate with Point72’s dedicated technology team to implement solutions
  • Collect, review and draft materials in response to management company tax audits conducted by federal, state, and international taxing authorities
  • Monitor legislative changes, proactively alerting team members and key stakeholders across the firm and implementing strategies or solutions as required
  • Demonstrate a team-oriented, “roll up your sleeves and get the work done” mentality and bring a sense of urgency and attention to detail to all requests and projects
  • Develop a solid understanding of Point72’s internal proprietary tax technology suite and tax compliance process workflow

What’s required

You should have an insatiable sense of intellectual curiosity and specifically will need:

  • 12+ years of progressive work experience in operating company taxation within the asset management industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA license
  • Knowledge of technical issues such as IRC §174 capitalization, research and development credits, GILTI, foreign tax credit planning, personal vs. business use of aircraft, deferred compensation, employee fringe benefits, fixed asset depreciation, Pillar Two, and transfer pricing
  • State and local tax experience, including experience with allocation & apportionment, unitary / combined filings, and tiered partnership structures
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with non-tax functions, including senior management
  • Automation and process improvement experience
  • Expertise with respect to foreign (non-U.S.) activities, including both U.S. and international tax reporting with respect to such activities such as Forms 5471, 8858, and 8865, Country-By-Country Reporting and Pillar Two
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
