Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Server and Azure SQL Database Administrator (L3) to manage, support, and optimize our database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will take ownership of complex issues, ensure database performance, availability, and security, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver database solutions on-premises and in the cloud.
On-Premises SQL Server Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances (versions 2012-2022).
- Monitor and optimize database performance using tools like SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including backups, index optimization, and integrity checks (DBCC).
- Implement and manage High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions such as:
- Always On Availability Groups.
- Log shipping, database mirroring, replication, and clustering.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues related to performance, connectivity, and replication.
- Manage database security, roles, and permissions.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in queries, indexes, and server configurations.
- Implement indexing strategies and query optimization techniques to improve performance.
- Monitor and tune SQL Server memory, CPU, and I/O performance.
- Implement Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Always Encrypted, and other encryption methods.
Azure SQL Administration:
- Design, implement, and maintain Azure SQL databases (PaaS and IaaS).
- Optimize performance and manage scaling using Azure features like Elastic Pools and Auto-Scale.
- Implement database backups, restores, and geo-replication in Azure.
- Manage and monitor Azure SQL using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Performance Insights.
- Ensure compliance with security standards like TDE, data masking, and Azure Defender for SQL.
Database Operations and Automation:
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for database automation (backups, deployments, monitoring, etc.).
- Design and implement automated solutions for database provisioning and updates.
Support and Incident Management:
- Provide L3 support for database-related incidents and ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and provide long-term solutions.
- Participate in on-call rotations to address after-hours emergencies.
Documentation and Collaboration:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with developers and application teams to design efficient database structures and queries.
