About the Role

Bullhorn is looking for a problem-solving systems focused technologist to add to our incredibly talented Technical Operations team as a Systems Engineer I. This is a role within the Technical Operations team and reports up to the Site Reliability Engineering Lead/Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for building, implementing, troubleshooting, and managing products and solutions for Bullhorn’s production environment, while ensuring 24/7 availability and high performance. The position will require a proficient understanding of JVM, Kubernetes, and public cloud technologies along with windows services and configuration. The ideal candidate will have proven technical experience with an excellent foundation in operating systems and networking skills. This role encompasses Application Troubleshooting expertise as well as On-Prem and Cloud Infrastructure experience.

As a Systems Engineer I, you will:

  • Lead new product line operational integration and ensure operational readiness.

    • Evaluate, improve, and implement monitoring and alerting.

    • Integrate new product lines with established operational processes.

    • Run migrations and automated deployments as needed.

    • Partner with Systems Architecture to align infrastructure with best practices.

  • Build, implement, manage and automate products and solutions for Bullhorn’s production environments.

  • Develop and maintain system analysis and reporting tools and tools for task automation.

  • Identify and contribute to strategy for continual improvement efforts for operational efficiency gains.

  • Maintain systems and network configurations for national and international data centers.

  • Monitor and maintain all production system equipment and services.

  • Mentor, train, and provide technical leadership to System Administration team members.

  • Ensure 24/7 availability of the production application environment. This will include 24/7 on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis as Technical Lead resource.

  • Build and document processes and procedures, testing plans, project plans, and architectural diagrams.

  • Provide direct support to and partner on projects with Software Development, Quality Engineering, Customer Support, Professional Services and third party vendors as needed to implement new solutions or resolve production problems.

As a Systems Engineer I, You'll Bring:

  • 6+ years of relevant hands-on experience with systems administration, as well as hardware and software troubleshooting in a multi-tenant, multi-product environment with high volume usage from external users.

  • Experience in automation and managing large server environments using Helm, Puppet, Ansible or other comparable tooling.

  • Proficiency in building and managing public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Mastery of administering Linux based systems (a must) and Windows Server (is a plus).

  • Experience working with containerized and virtualized environments such as Kubernetes and KVM/VMWare.

  • Experience scripting in Bash, Python, PowerShell or similar scripting language.

  • Experience with Prometheus, Icinga, Grafana, ELK, Splunk or similar monitoring and visibility systems

  • Previous experience in a SaaS and/or high volume website environment is highly preferred. We have 10,000+ Customers with 200,000+ users

  • Experience with SAN and NAS technologies (iSCSI, FCP, CIFS, NFS, etc).

  • Experience working in high pressure environments.

  • Previous on-call experience.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience administering Java-based applications running on Tomcat or JBoss application servers.

  • Experience with onboarding acquisitions, integrating new product lines with existing processes and teams

  • Understanding of TCP/IP network technologies
