Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a System Engineer (SME) who will be responsible for the configuration, management, troubleshooting, and optimization of LAN/WAN environments, as well as the implementation of robust security measures in such environments. This role will also be expected to solve complex network issues, evaluate emerging technologies, and ensure the continued functionality and efficiency of the customer network systems. This effort will be in support of a contract in the Clarksburg, WV area although, the position is Remote.
Successful System Engineers will use their expert knowledge of network protocols and systems to support and enhance the customer's network infrastructure.
Responsibilities include:
- Applying Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) routing and switching principles to practical solutions.
- Performing multi-level troubleshooting and root-cause problem solving.
- Ability to configure, maintain, and upgrade LAN/WAN design and topology.
- Installing/configuring LAN/WAN hardware and maintain wiring closets and nomenclature.
- Managing Cisco and other hardware, including consumer-grade routers and switches.
- Monitoring with standard network management and packet analysis tools.
- Planning, implementing, and administering perimeter security and firewalling.
- Evaluating new technologies and make design recommendations for a more efficient and cost-effective network infrastructure.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Two (2) to five years (5) of experience with firewall configuration and load balancing.
- Understand network protocols including TCP/IP, User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and other common protocols.
- Have expert knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)/Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) routing protocol.
- Understand all aspects of Virtual Private Network (VPN) design and configurations.
- Have expert knowledge of TCP/IP and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
- Have expert level troubleshooting and root-cause problem solving.
- Experience working in an Agile organization using Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, and SAFe.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Enterprise Infrastructure
- Knowledge of network security tools and firewall management
- Ability to participate in network design, implementation, and optimization.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel and ability to work with a non-co-located team
- Strong attention to detail
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $120000 - $204000
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
