The Successful Candidate
BAE Systems is seeking a Manager of Supplier Quality - CEMA, who will report to the Director Supplier Quality for Countermeasure and Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA). This role will be accountable for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the CEMA Business Supplier Quality Assurance strategy & program to reduce risk and ensure world class product and process quality and delivery from the supply base. You will need to build strong relationships with the business leaders, programs, supplier partnerships, and program quality functions to understand and translate requirements and risks into a robust supplier quality plan that prevents disruptions and customer defects. In support of your Supplier Quality business strategy, you will closely partner with the core teams of the Supplier Quality function (Category and Operations leads), to ensure the supply base is assessed, qualified, and consistently delivering a quality product. This role will be the Command and Control of supplier quality in the business and the voice of the business within the supplier quality function. This individual must be a self-starting leader who can effectively partner with multiple functional organizations internally (BAE Electronic Systems) and externally (Supply Base) for success.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, communicate, and drive a proactive Supplier Quality program for the Business.
- Measure, maintain, analyze, and communicate all Supplier Quality metrics, risks, and planned actions, and drive continuous improvements efforts at suppliers for improvement (CAR meetings, SRB, etc.)
- Partner with the Supplier Quality Category teams and Programs to relay requirements, assess and develop suppliers (Supplier Development Program), and drive RCCA with suppliers.
- Be the Command and Control for Supplier Quality within the business.
- Lead RCCA activities for supplier quality problems by analyzing defect trends, issuing SCARs, working with partners on audits, and leading continuous improvement projects to drive a zero defects mindset - insure timely closure as well.
- Responsible for developing a collaborative environment with suppliers, design engineering, program quality engineers, supplier partnership leaders, and other key functions to foster a zero-defect environment inclusive of APQP/PPAP (AS9145), Lean-6Sigma, and Quality science tools.
- Engage/lead in all supply chain discussions to ensure proper selection of sourcing (throughout entire product life cycle) to mitigate risk and reduce overall cost of ownership of the parts.
- Partner with the core Supplier Quality team to engage key supplier's management in a business review process to monitor metrics, identify trends and implement programs to assure demonstrated performance improvements.
- Manages and develops a high performing and diverse team of Supplier Quality Engineers (potentially in geographically dispersed locations) who can build relationships and interpret contractual and product requirements and flow down to action at a supplier.
- Enhance supplier and organization quality culture through coaching and technical engagement.
- Ensure the assigned team of Supplier Quality Engineers perform their duties, gain the required skills, and collaborate with suppliers in alignment with category and business strategies.
- Assist the Supplier Quality Director in continuously improving responsiveness to internal customers to meet service level expectations while optimizing resources.
- Manage and develop a high-performing and diverse team of Supplier Quality Engineers, enhancing the organization quality culture through coaching and technical engagement, ensuring the timely information flow to all assigned team members, stakeholders, and suppliers for the assigned team.
- Support AS9145 deployment in key suppliers to mitigate program risks.
- Drive "Zero Defect" mentality within the supply base.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree and 10-12+ years of experience or 14-16 years of experience in lieu of degree
- Supplier Quality experience
- Leadership or managment experience
- Lean and 6Sigma certifications a plus; 8D facilitation proficiency.
- Core competencies include strong leadership, communication, influence, and relationship building.
- Good experience with, and an understanding of, sourcing and execution in regulated, demanding industries such as Aerospace/Defense, Medical Device, Automotive, or other challenging markets.
- Comfortable experience working in a matrix organization.
- Self-starter identifies challenges/problems and takes the initiative to identify solutions.
- Motivates team members, fosters, and nurtures teamwork.
- Can diffuse high-tension situations calmly and effectively.
- Excellent Collaboration skills, project management skills and working with internal and external customers, including suppliers to deliver first time quality and drive non-conformances to closure should they occur.
- Some travel required.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality or Manufacturing.
- 5+ years direct experience, or related experience in Supplier Quality; 3+ years' experience managing teams.
- Experience with ISO 9000:2000, AS9100/9102 Quality Systems; AS9145 or APQP is a desire
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $130355 - $221603
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
