As the Supplier Quality Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will manage our supply base to ensure that our suppliers are delivering high-quality products to our assembly operations for our robots. Every day, you will ensure that Boston Dynamics has a qualified and capable supply base to reliably manufacture products to meet our current and future requirements and business needs. This is a highly collaborative role that works with suppliers, and internal teams to validate new suppliers, identify productivity and quality improvement opportunities, and work to identify root cause issues and implement corrective actions. Your role will play a key part on Boston Dynamics’ Manufacturing team as we continue to design and manufacture the most advanced robots on Earth!

Day to day activities:

Ensure the quality of purchased parts.

Validate new suppliers/parts and participate in the source selection process..

Help define in-process and end of line tests and measurement systems as needed at suppliers and BD incoming verification. .

Conduct quality review meetings with external suppliers and design engineering groups

Provide support to design engineering teams to identify manufacturability and quality control issues

Monitor field service repairs and warranty returns, and implement CAR to suppliers

Ensure clear communication and understanding of quality requirements and expectations to the supplier.

Validate supplier processes have been fully assessed/audited and are capable of meeting expectations and needs, managing resolution of open issues.

Ensure timely completion of PPAP and other quality related activities from the supplier to ensure both short term and long term product quality and process capability.

Confirm all necessary product and process activities are established, qualified and capable at supplier and BD.

Manage all corrective actions and improvements as a result of audits, performance issues or non-conforming material.

Be integrated into any ODM/JDM design reviews and prototype and pre-production build activities, on site as necessary.

Review and provide timely feedback on supplier designs, processes, test plans, changes and other relevant artifacts.

Assist with new product launch by working with suppliers to ensure that key milestones are achieved.
Desired skills:
-
5+ years experience in a supplier quality function supporting suppliers of PCBAs and electro-mechanical parts (i.e. actuators, motors, slip-rings).

Experience working with JDM (Joint Design Manufacturer) & ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) partners on effective solutions to design in and control quality.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and convert them into the quality control plans

Experience in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)

Experience developing inspection plans with suppliers and incoming inspection teams.

Experience with precision machined parts, castings, cables. injection molded plastic parts, sheet metal is recommended.

Audit experience.

Experience in new product introductions (NPI) and qualifying new suppliers and parts.

BS in Engineering.

Travel:

Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, domestic and internationally.
