Vast is looking for a Supervisor, Materials & Processes, reporting to the Manager, Materials & Processes, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and mentor a team of materials testing technicians and soft-goods fabrication technicians.
  • Conduct daily team meetings to communicate goals and expectations.
  • Coordinate work schedules and assignments to optimize productivity. 
  • Ensure aerospace industry quality standards are followed. 
  • Implement and oversee quality control measures. 
  • Continual optimization of materials testing and soft-goods fabrication for efficiency. 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and other departments for process improvements. 
  • Coordinate repairs with the maintenance teams in a timely manner. 
  • Enforce safety protocols in the materials test lab and during soft-goods fabrication. 
  • Identify training needs for the team. 
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with upper management.
  • Ensure purchase orders are accurate with no cost overruns.
  • Coordination to meet with the Vast end user and establish the scope of work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a materials lab performing materials testing. 
  • Knowledge of materials testing standards and fabrication experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, maintaining composure, and working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
  • A good work ethic, attention to detail, and high level of personal integrity.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Proven leadership abilities with a track record of team management. 
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role in a materials lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. 
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to standards. 
  • Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements. 
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and drive innovation within the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted

Salary Range: California

$82,000$130,000 USD

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
