ALSAC’s Internship Program offers an immersive experience where interns dive into our culture, contribute to organizational goals through meaningful projects, and build relationships with team members and senior leadership. Over the course of 10 weeks, interns are paired with a day-to-day manager and given significant assignments, gaining a true understanding of what it means to be part of ALSAC/St. Jude. Recognized as one of the top 100 internship programs in the U.S. in 2022 by WayUp and Yello, our program is designed to be impactful and enriching.

ALSAC Summer Intern Innovation Project: Throughout the internship, interns will connect with innovators across ALSAC, learning the art of Design Thinking. Working in teams, they will engage in creative sessions and prepare to present their projects to ALSAC’s CEO and Executive Leadership Team.

Project Management

Shadowing Experienced Managers: Intern will observe and learn from seasoned project managers, understanding how they plan, execute, and monitor projects.

Participating in Meetings: Attending project meetings to learn about stakeholder communication, project updates, and issue resolution.

Task Management: Handling smaller tasks or sub-projects to develop skills in task prioritization, time management, and resource allocation.

Using PM Tools: Gaining hands-on experience with project management software like Microsoft Project.

Risk Management: Learning how to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks through real-world scenarios to include:

Learn to manage and prioritize tasks by using case studies to evaluate common historic High Wealth requests and determine opportunities, challenges and suggested next steps.

Gain experience in decision-making by learning about naming opportunities and the donor management cycle with hands on learning. This project will allow the intern to make business recommendations under $100k under the supervision of their manager.

Develop organizational skills by managing collateral materials like new strategic plans and donor impact reports. Learn how to create an internal communication plan to staff. Intern will then execute the internal communication plan to close the learning loop.
Graphic Design

Design Projects: Working on real design projects, from concept to completion, to understand the design process and client requirements.

Software Training: Gaining proficiency in design software like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

Portfolio Development: Creating a portfolio of work to showcase skills and creativity.

Feedback Sessions: Participating in design critiques to learn how to receive and implement constructive feedback.

Branding Projects: Working on branding and identity projects to understand the importance of consistency and brand guidelines.

Enhance design skills by creating HW custom PowerPoint templates. Intern will first do an audience assessment to learn about the motives and personas of the high wealth audience then use those earnings to put together a sample case template.

Learn to format and design by creating sample ideal proposals in the new Word format proposal template.

Gain experience in digital formatting by converting stories into PDF format from various sources for frontline staff use.

Learn to manage digital assets by maintaining a repository.

Explore creative design by creating custom gift options for stewardship.
Research

Literature Reviews: Conducting literature reviews to understand the current state of knowledge in a particular field.

Data Collection: Learning various methods of data collection, including surveys, interviews, and experiments.

Data Analysis: Using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python) to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions.

Report Writing: Writing research reports and papers to communicate findings effectively.
