The Montréal Exchange (MX) is Canada's oldest exchange, having first been established under legal charter in 1874 as the Montreal Stock Exchange after more than 40 years of informal trading, primarily in railroad and bank securities. The official name transition sought to reflect the growing importance of financial instruments other than stocks on its trading floor. Today, a wholly owned subsidiary of TMX Group, MX is a comprehensive electronic exchange dedicated to the growth of the Canadian derivative market, providing a vast range of risk management products and services to support and meet domestic and foreign retail and institutional investors needs.
The Financial Markets Intern will have the unique opportunity to gain valuable experience across various roles within the Montreal Exchange. The Intern will be rotating across different departments, which may include: relationship management, product development, market operations, corporate development and strategy.
Key Accountabilities
Depending on the rotation, the Intern will be accountable for:

Sales Support: Assist in client interactions, including preparing presentations, analyzing market trends, and supporting sales strategies.

Product Research: Conduct research on financial products, analyze their performance, and contribute insights for product development or enhancement.

Strategy Assistance: Support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, including market analysis, competitive research, and project coordination.

Operational Support: Assist in operational tasks ensuring smooth market operations, including market monitoring and the technical help desk.

Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data to provide actionable insights for decision-making and strategy formulation.

Learning and Development: Proactively seek learning opportunities, participate in training sessions, and stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance skills and knowledge in financial markets.
Must Haves

Undergraduate student (2nd or 3rd year), enrolled in a Finance or Economics bachelor degree

Ability to analyze complex financial data and market trends to derive insights and support decision-making processes.

Strong attention to detail in tasks such as data analysis, report preparation, and compliance monitoring to ensure accuracy and quality of work.

Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas, collaborate with team members, and interact professionally with clients.

Capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment, contribute ideas, and support colleagues in achieving common goals.

Proactive attitude towards seeking learning opportunities, taking initiative in tasks, and continuously improving knowledge and skills in financial markets.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment inherent to financial markets.

Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for data analysis, presentations, and research, such as Microsoft Excel.
