The Opportunity

Cornell Law School is seeking a highly motivated and organized Student Engagement Coordinator to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Dean of Students (DOS), the Student Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in creating and supporting events and initiatives that enhance student wellness, promote diversity and inclusion, and foster a strong sense of belonging within the Law School community. The Coordinator will work closely with student organizations to ensure they have the resources and support needed to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Organization Support: Collaborate with Law School student organizations to monitor their overall health and ensure student leaders have the skills and resources to succeed. Serve as a key resource for student organization activities and assist with event approvals and scheduling.

  • Budget and Funding Management: Administer funding for student activities, including purchasing, procurement, and budget management. Oversee the reconciliation of student organization budgets and act as a liaison with the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly Finance Commission (GPSAFC) regarding funding requirements, directives, and reimbursements.

  • Event Execution: Independently plan and execute DOS Office-sponsored events that focus on student wellness and diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Assist in organizing major Law School events, such as Orientation, Convocation, and various student-directed symposia and career conferences featuring employers, prominent alumni, judges, and leading scholars.

  • Calendar Management: Approve student organization activities using the 25Live system and monitor the non-academic calendar to ensure a balanced offering of student events and activities.

  • Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives: Support the development of impactful, student-focused events that incorporate priorities of wellness, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday. There may be occasional night and weekend hours to support student activities and events.  

What You Need

We are looking for a team member who is customer service oriented, an excellent communicator, organized, detail oriented, forward thinking, and diplomatic. Additionally, you will: 

  • Hold an Associate’s degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.

  • Have the aptitude to work successfully under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting, handling multiple tasks with differing deadlines, and to prioritize work on projects happening simultaneously.

  • Demonstrate stewardship managing budgets.

  • Have experience in supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, legal employers in the public and private sectors, judges, scholars, and vendors, and community members.

  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills, along with organizational/project management, time management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Hold a strong service orientation, commitment to collaboration and innovation, and attention to detail.

  • Use tact and diplomacy, and resolve problems using creative and innovative solutions.

  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Qualtrics, and Adobe Creative Suite, leveraging technology to maximize efficiencies.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Demonstrated competence in event planning, project management, and marketing.

  • Working knowledge of student-facing advising offices.

  • Experience with student clubs/organizations/government.

  • Proficient in database management, presentation, and electronic communications.

  • Experience with Cornell procurement and accounting systems, 25Live, and WordPress or other online content creation and management software
