GDP combines the best of advertising, journalism, identity, and digital to help brands tell better stories. We are looking for a summer intern to join our team of strategic storytellers.
Collectively, our talented crew of editors, writers, creative directors, video producers, and brand strategists have created an award-winning Netflix series, redesigned National Geographic magazine, made a documentary about iconic sneakers, and spearheaded the launch of Microsoft’s WorkLab digital publication, which includes newsletters, reports, feature stories, and a podcast.
The focus of the internship is learning to cast a wide research net then synthesizing to the most useful idea. Our clients include large tech corporations, media companies, arts and culture organizations, and nonprofits.
The candidates most likely to thrive are self-starters who prefer trying to solve a challenge their own way first before collaborating with others. They are comfortable receiving an assignment or directions and then running with the project, taking responsibility for communications with their team when they want assistance or guidance.
This is a paid hybrid role in San Francisco.
Key responsibilities include:
- Researching and synthesizing cultural trends and movements into resonant and inspiring strategy for GDP and its client partners
- Collaborating with other GDP teams to craft creative briefs, competitive analyses, trend reports, and quantitative and qualitative research.
- Interrogating the existing understanding of a client, their marketplace, and the target audience to inform creative output, including traditional advertising, brand identity and strategy, and written, video, or audio editorial content
- Working with the team on internal communication around strategy projects, client interactions, and supporting new business needs.
- Collaborating closely with strategy and account services teams to ensure that creative work is resonant and addresses the client’s communication needs.
- Working with the editorial and creative teams to research and pitch new communication channels to address our needs
- Working on a collaborative Intern Pitch Project that gives interns from different teams an opportunity to create a proposal and build a pitch from the ground up.
Qualifications include:
- A commitment of up to 40 hours a week from June through August
- Possesses a hungry, strategic mind that is happiest when learning something new, and sees difficult problems as an opportunity for creativity
- Deeply curious about understanding consumer psychology, cultures, and the forces that shape them
- Strong analytical and research skills to assess market trends and consumer insights
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for storytelling and campaign presentations
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Comfortable with handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines
