We are looking for a Staff Tooling Engineer to join our team. The goal of a Staff Tooling Engineer at Wisk is to ensure that the needs of our internal customers are met with competent tooling solutions, real-time/hands-on support and effective cross-team communication. You will be part of the Production Systems team that provides equipment, tooling and production support through design engineering, systems creation, hardware support, supplier management with efficient engineering solutions for our next generation aircraft.
Due to the nature of the work required for this position, this is an onsite opportunity. You will be required to work from our Mountain View office.
In this role you will:
- Design complex assembly tooling for use in mid-high rate production
- Provide first level, hands on support for the production tooling team utilizing hand tools and powered equipment
- Showcase problem solving and engineering know-how when applying applicable solutions
- Effectively communicate cross functionally
- While working independently manage time and priorities based on team/company goals
What you will do:
- As part of the Production Systems organization, you will act as a Tooling Engineer for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market
- You will help support problem solving activities from on floor activities with hands on work, technical writing and communication with the cross functional group. You will work to provide tooling engineering solutions based on prior experience, team collaboration and industry best practices.
- You will help coordinate scheduling for both internal and external resources. Items such as metrology, engineering services, logistics and tooling repair utilizing both inside and outside resources.
- You will take part in daily stand ups, weekly meetings for tooling and other relevant teams. Expect to work closely with the engineering design team on new concepts and iterating existing designs with respect to manufacturing.
- You will be working closely with design engineering, supply chain and composite fabrication. You will maintain relationships and provide technical support on all tooling related items. This will include technical writing, tooling design, hands-on support and supplier communication.
- As a Tooling Engineer, you will help define design and process specifications related to tooling, and also provide input to cross-functional groups. This will include creating technical documentation for standards, product flow, gate and review processes, along with specific tooling engineering standards relative to both detail and assembly tooling.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and 8 years of experience.
- You have worked in the aerospace, automotive industries. Also industries where composites are utilized and preferably at a med/high rate.
- Tooling design for complex assemblies (FAJ, drill jigs, etc)
- NC/CNC machines
- On-floor problem solving with engineering effective solutions
- Shop tools
- NX (preferred), SolidWorks, or Catia
- GD&T standards (ASME Y147.41, Y14.100, Y14.5)
- Working understanding of model based definition and drafting
- Quality systems (AS9100)
- DFMEA/PFMEA
- PLM systems for storing/retrieving CAD data (Preferred: Teamcenter)
