Staff Tools Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Tools Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in front-end development using React and TypeScript, with at least 2+ years of experience writing extensions for Visual Studio Code. This role is ideal for an experienced developer with a passion for creating high-quality developer tools and a strong interest in embedded systems.
As a Staff Tools Engineer, you will have the opportunity to lead technical projects, mentor junior engineers, and drive the delivery of innovative solutions. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the technical excellence of our tools, supporting both internal and external users.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain developer tools and extensions for Visual Studio Code, with a focus on usability and performance.
- Build and enhance front-end interfaces and components using React and TypeScript.
- Provide technical direction for projects, ensuring alignment with architectural best practices and business goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including embedded systems engineers, to integrate tools into broader workflows.
- Lead and mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of technical growth and collaboration.
- Establish and maintain coding standards and best practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable codebases.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in front-end development and developer tooling.
- Debug and resolve technical issues to maintain robust, reliable tools for users.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional front-end development experience, with a focus on React and TypeScript.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining extensions for Visual Studio Code.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership and mentor junior developers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of or experience with embedded systems is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with development tools and workflows (e.g., Git, CI/CD, testing frameworks).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with designing APIs or integrations for developer tools.
- Background in performance optimization for front-end applications.
- Strong understanding of TypeScript and its ecosystem.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
