We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join Snap!

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of database solutions such as Trino and BQ, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability.

  • Architect and implement metadata management solutions using tools like DataHub to enhance data discoverability and governance.

  • Drive the integration and deployment of workflow orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow, facilitating efficient data pipelines and analytical workflows.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions that align with business objectives.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database and workflow issues, ensuring minimal disruption to data operations.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in database technologies, metadata management, and workflow orchestration, and propose innovative solutions to enhance our tech stack.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of database management systems and experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as Trino and BQ.

  • Strong understanding of metadata management principles and hands-on experience with tools like DataHub.

  • Proficiency in workflow orchestration tools, particularly Apache Airflow, with a solid grasp of their architectures and use cases.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and lead projects from conception to completion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in database engineering, metadata management, or workflow orchestration, infrastructure components such as K8s, GCP stack.

  • Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale database solutions and data pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Contributions to open-source projects such as Trino, DataHub or Airflow.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with cloud-based database services such as BigQuery (BQ) or Trino.

  • Familiarity with additional workflow orchestration tools and frameworks beyond Airflow.

  • Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within an engineering team.

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $222,000-$333,000 annually.


 

Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $211,000-$316,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $189,000-$283,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
