About the Role
Fivetran is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer who is eager to tackle various technical challenges in a dynamic startup environment. This role is pivotal, as it involves making significant contributions to one of our most critical database connectors. We are looking for someone who thrives in solving complex and sometimes ambiguous problems using the latest technologies. In this role, you'll have the chance to wear multiple hats and engage in different tasks to deliver high-quality solutions. You'll work alongside a team of experienced and passionate engineers, providing ample opportunities for learning and growth.
This is a full-time position based out of our Oakland office.

What You’ll Do
- Design, Develop, and Debug: Lead the design, development, and debugging of software for distributed systems, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.
- Project Leadership: Manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with different stakeholders to ensure timely and quality delivery in an iterative development environment.
- Mentorship and Collaboration: Serve as a leading contributor, both individually and as a team member, offering direction and mentorship to other engineers.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards for code quality, performance, and reliability, conducting thorough testing and reviews.
- Innovation and Improvement: Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, advocating for the adoption of new tools and methodologies to improve the development process.
Skills We’re Looking For
- Extensive experience in software engineering, particularly in developing distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency in Java and performance tuning.
- Proven ability to lead and manage multiple projects, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a passion for tackling challenging and ambiguous technical problems.
- Experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Strong communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
