Staff Software Engineer - Data & Analytics

We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer to take our Data & Analytics Platform to the next level.
Data & Analytics provides a suite of tools for all data practitioners across Datadog for data pipeline management, data governance, data storage and exploration. Our platform enables everyone to easily interact with and derive value from data.
Several Datadog products use our platform today (Cloud Cost Management, Data Science, Metrics teams) and there is a growing number of product teams leveraging our systems to power their batch data pipelines and analytics data storage for which we're building an Iceberg-based Lakehouse.
As a Staff Engineer, you will drive and collaborate on projects both inside and outside the Data & Analytics platform. You can expect to make key technical decisions on our infrastructure powering data ingestion, processing, storage, and querying.

What You'll Do:

• Design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to increase the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams.
• Provide technical leadership across one or several areas of the platform.
• Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions.
• Identify potential system risks and trends in reliability and design solutions to address them.
• Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning and roadmaps.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including product teams, to understand their requirements and how we plan for their product growth as they integrate and depend on our Data & Analytics platform.

Who You Are:

• You have led cross-team initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment for 8+ years.
• You have a proven track record of delivery and long-term operation of systems in an environment where performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience/operability are first-order concerns.
• You have significant back-end programming experience and have architected, built, and operated distributed systems to solve data problems at a high scale such as batch and stream processing, event-driven microservices, data-intensive applications, data and metadata storage systems.
• You enjoy mentoring and coaching other engineers to become even stronger.
• This job is available in various departments within our company; to conform to US export control regulations, some of these roles may require candidates to be eligible for any required authorizations from the US government.

$234,000 - $300,000 USD
