Data and feature engineering sets the foundation for Pinterest to bring continuous inspiration to Pinners. The ML Feature Infrastructure team focuses on data processing, feature generation and relevant infrastructure and tooling. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the team to improve the data infrastructure to enable teams across Pinterest to develop, consume, experiment, and monitor ML features rapidly and at scale.
What you’ll do
- Own and improve data processing infrastructure and key pipelines, for efficient and reliable feature generation, content ingestion and candidate generator indexing.
- Manage a portfolio of data products that deliver high-quality, trustworthy datasets / features.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to understand and incorporate changing requirements into the development roadmap.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership..
- Drive the technical vision for the team, work closely with the engineering leadership to define technical strategies and roadmaps
What we’re looking for:
- BS+ degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience as a hands-on engineer and technical leader leading multiple projects.
- 6+ years experience working in data / feature platform or a similar role
- Solid technical knowledge and hands-on experience in data processing frameworks, either batch (Spark, Presto, etc.) or streaming (Flink, Kafka, etc.); working experience with other commonly used tools in the big data ecosystem: resource manager (Yarn, K8S), configuration management (zookeeper), job scheduler (Airflow, Dagster), etc.
- Knowledge on ML feature infrastructure and / or tooling.
- Excellent communication skills and cross-team collaboration experience.
In-Office Requirement Statement:
We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times every 6 months and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.
