We are building the future of aerospace.
The Role
Lead the development and implementation of manufacturing strategies for avionics in the Terran R rocket. Manage integration and testing of flight-ready stages, mentor junior engineers, and develop business tools for efficient manufacturing.
Summary Generated by Built In

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Manufacturing team owns all process development, fabrication strategy, and production equipment for Terran R, our next generation, reusable rocket. This team has a wide variety of responsibilities – from factory floor layout, to developing complex tooling for novel processes, and interfacing with our vehicle engineering team to heavily influence design of the rocket. We leverage our deep expertise to translate engineering requirements into highly optimized production lines, working cross functionally to consistently enhance the vehicle program.

About the Role:

  • Lead the development, qualification, and implementation of major manufacturing strategies and
processes to improve productivity and enhance product quality.
  • Drive avionics integration efforts through design, process development, mBOM management, and build and test work order creation.
  • Support work center development by considering assembly and test operations, tooling and capital equipment requirements, and company operational goals
  • Manage the integration, testing, and delivery of flight ready stages of Terran R to test and launch sites.
  • Mentor junior manufacturing engineers, providing guidance to support technical and professional development.
  • Assist with developing the business tools and processes that will be used to manufacture the first launch vehicle. In parallel, help to define and pilot the long-term ERP, MES, and QMS solutions that will enable high-quality, efficient vehicle manufacturing.

About You:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience building, testing, and integrating avionics hardware in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience as the primary liaison between the design teams and production organization to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • Extensive experience influencing avionics design, EMI/EMC, mechanical packaging, avionics hardware integration, and avionics checkouts.
  • Working knowledge of other launch vehicle subsystems including structures, propulsion, mechanisms, and high-pressure gas systems.
  • Expert in at least 2 of the following: harness routing, sensor check-outs, integrated testing, high voltage systems (320V+), EMI/EMC, high pressure pneumatic systems, mating operations, lifting or crane operations, tool design and fab, capacity and rate planning, test automation, etc.

Nice to haves but not required:

  •  Ability to take an analog-oriented test plan, a strong understanding of the controlling device, and use a scripting language (ex. python) to develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and automate system checkouts.
  • Working understanding of avionics hardware and initialization processes.
  • Experience planning and test conducting hazardous operations.
  • Experience in leading, executing, and managing projects in a fast-paced environment.

At Relativity Space, we are committed to transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.

What We Do

A rocket company at the core, Relativity Space is on a mission to become the next great commercial launch company. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable launch vehicle, will reliably deliver payloads to orbit on-time and on-budget for customers – meeting the needs of growing demand for space infrastructure. Leveraging the benefits of additive manufacturing to design, test, and iterate at a pace unmatched in the industry, we are changing the way rockets are built and flown.

Our long-term goal is to create humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to fundamentally expand the possibilities of the human experience. The first step toward this vision starts here on Earth, by building the next great commercial launch company.

Why Work With Us

For 60 years, aerospace manufacturing has relied on fixed tooling and complex supply chains to slowly build rockets comprised of hundreds of thousands of parts. Leveraging advances in additive manufacturing, Relativity Space is strategically focused on reducing vehicle complexity, cost, and time to market.
