Staff Kubernetes Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY 
As a Kubernetes Expert, your primary objective is to improve our cloud provisioned managed Kubernetes cluster and support CVS Health’s vision to build a stable, reliable, advanced, and seamless infrastructure for developers while maintaining a cloud-agnostic solution that uses the latest industry standards.
This Staff Kubernetes Engineer will help us achieve a stable environment that will support container microservices and allow us to create environment for our engineers - emulating our production environment to the best of our abilities.

Expectations for the role

• Leverages expertise to design and implement efficient and scalable solutions that meet business requirements and quality standards.
• Contributes to solution design and architecture discussions, collaborating with architects and senior engineers.
• Provides input on technical feasibility, performance optimization, and scalability considerations to ensure that the overall solution meets the desired objectives.
• Participates in code reviews and ensures adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelines.
• Communicates and coordinates with team members to ensure alignment, provide technical insights, and contribute to decision-making processes.
• Contributes to the adoption of best practices, new technologies, and tools to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code quality.
• Participates in knowledge sharing activities, such as code reviews, tech talks, and workshops, to foster a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.
• Works with other developers and team members to implement complex features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure the delivery of high-quality code.
• Provides guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them improve their technical skills and grow professionally.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of experience with building secure and reliable kubernetes platform from dev to production
• 5+ years experience with CNCF packages like Istio, Kiali, Opa, Ingress gateway as well as deploying, managing, upgrading at scale on large volumes of kubernetes cluster and using these packages efficiently
• 3+ years of experience running production workloads on GKE or other similar platforms like AKS, EKS, RKE or openshift having deep understanding of helm charts
• 3+ years of experience managing Argocd, Github Actions or any other CI/CD tool
• 2+ years of experience with Terraform and other IAC tools
• 2+ years of experience managing secrets with hashicorp vault or similar products to manage code securely

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong understanding of application and platform developer needs and experiences
• Experience developing micro services, with a heavy interest in helping other engineers achieve the same
• Experience working in an environment using Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe agile frameworks
• Experience provisioning cloud infrastructure kubernetes mutation and validation webhooks
• Experience creating pipelines and automation to deploy dockerized applications onto Kubernetes clusters using Gitops
• Experiencing doing POC on CNCF open source projects
• Excitement learning from and helping mentor other members of the team as well as across the organization
• Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$106,605.00 - $260,590.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
