Staff EHSS Specialist

The Global EHS team is seeking a dynamic, organized and driven Staff EHSS Specialist to support the stand up of our Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability function at our new state of the art manufacturing facility in Athenry.
Reporting to the Regional EHSS Leader, you will provide support in enabling a high performance and positive Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) culture. You will provide technical expertise across all functions to ensure a compliant and safe workplace for all employees, visitors, and contractors. You will work closely with the Global EHSS team, to ensure alignment to global process, best practice and implementation at site level.
Where you come in:
- You will improve EHSS workplace performance by promoting a positive safety culture and implementing safety and environmental management systems in accordance with regulations, corporate compliance policies and standards.
- You will identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. You will conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
- You will coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analyses and risk assessments. You will measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to mitigate workplace incidents and injuries.
- You will assist in the development of controlled documents and training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, material handling, and life safety.
- You will develop or implement research, investigation, or analysis protocols for evaluating ergonomic initiatives, or testing emerging and new technology related to ergonomics
- You will apply ergonomic principles into real life complex problems using modelling, data and other methods to optimize human performance and overall performance to eliminate or reduce risk of injury/illness
- You will review, investigate and implement action plans for work-related injuries, illnesses, accidents and safety concerns
- You will maintain thorough knowledge of EHSS regulations, fire and safety codes, and, engineering safety standards.
- You will coordinate and participate in committees and attends meetings related to employee safety, public safety, warehouse floor layouts, fire safety, as well as property loss or damage. Provides expertise on safety risk management, statistics and trends.
- You will coordinate and conduct worksite inspections and audits.
- You will perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
What makes you successful:
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 8-12 years related experience.
- You are familiar with health, safety, and regulatory requirements
- You have a proven ability to quickly assess situations through demonstrated problem-solving skills and knowledge of state of the art technology related to their EHS discipline.
- You have demonstrable success in administering EHSS programs.
- You have experience in manufacturing environment in medical device industry or similar work setting.
- You are able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
- Accredited certification strongly preferred (Certified Professional Ergonomist, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist).
- You have strong project management skills in facilitating projects/activities.
