As a Staff Cloud Engineer, you will utilize your software and systems engineering background to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. Your role is to ensure that RBC’s internal Cloud Platform reliability and maximum uptime.
Building on good core processes like CI/CD, infrastructure as code and platform automation, this role is looking to build on the success of automating infrastructure across the business.
This role is pivotal in our journey towards eliminating all manual provisioning of services as well as working closely with development teams to provide an excellent developer experience to achieve our goal of doing DevOps the right way.
A very exciting aspect of this role is that you would be working on cloud platform that hosts many critical banking apps. While nobody's attained perfection yet, we’re on a journey and with the support of our cloud program this is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills on an enterprise scale platform.
Ideal applicants will be working in a DevOps way, having a strong background in development and also with an interest in operations.
What will you do?
- Build scalable systems, using best practices around automation, pushing changes that improve reliability and velocity
- Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, planning and reviews
- Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
- Provide mentorship and training to other team members on technologies and processes; drive education and knowledge transfer of design patterns, technical practices, and relevant technologies and tools
- Drive high standards around incident response practices and policies
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- 5+ years of experience in an Operational role: DevOps, SRE, or Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering
- 5+ years of experience doing development in any of Java, NodeJS, .NET Core, Python
- 5+ years of experience developing applications with an active user base, and deploying to production and going through any change management process (Ideal candidate is able to engage in a detailed discussion about their change management process as well as its happy/pain points)
- 3+ years of experience with development or administration on AWS, Azure
- Providing standardized offerings to facilitate and ensure operational health of stacks throughout their lifecycle including metrics collection, aggregation, and visualization, inventory, capacity, and billing/tag management.
- Experience with the operational aspects of software systems such as monitoring, centralized logging, and alerting.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with RedHat Openshift
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, AWS Cloud Formation
- Experience with Monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Grafana, Splunk etc.
- Experience with automating manual processes and tests
- Experience in Kubernetes, Elasticsearch and Kibana, Kafka, Redis Cache
