This role sits in the Disney Cruise Line Infrastructure organization within Technology & Digital for Disney Experiences. It works closely with Disney Cruise Line Operations and other infrastructure groups from across the company.
The Senior Systems Engineer will report to the Sr. Manager of Infrastructure and Architecture for Dry Docks and Special Projects
About The Role & Team:
This is a "hands-on" Engineer who enjoys planning, creating and field-testing real-world solutions. While we can't do without folks who excel in a specific area, we also appreciate those whose skill sets encompass a wide variety of practical matters. We seek forward-thinking team members who are passionate about delivering a quality product and enjoy working closely with business partners on both strategic and tactical challenges. Candidate should have good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work independently as a self-starter, utilize good time management skills, and function well within a diverse team.
What You'll Do:

  • Integrate with many of our Disney Cruise Line business partners to understand and document their requirements for dry docks and special projects
  • Coordinate with the IT Specialist roles on board the ships to plan and execute projects
  • Participate in the design of the final solution and conduct peer reviews for related efforts
  • Nurture and maintain relationships with key external vendors who can complete the work at hand
  • Request proposals from our vendors by sending detailed specifications as to what they are expected to complete on our behalf
  • Work closely with critical shipboard officers to keep them apprised of the projects and collaborate with them on project and details as appropriate
  • Take requests from shipboard officers of work/projects they need assistance with
  • Provide Leadership and knowledge transfer to shipboard officers
  • Partner with key members to arrange necessary DCL travel on behalf of the vendor and DCL cast
  • Participate in leading efforts/jobs (and vendors as appropriate)
  • Review the vendor work (either in person or obtaining approval from shipboard staff) and confirm invoices for payment

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • A strong passion for learning and a desire to help others
  • Self-starter with ability to take initiative and balance multiple priorities with minimal direction
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and technologies. We look less for knowledge of a specific technology than we do someone who can learn new things quickly
  • Qualified systems engineers will have a minimum of 5 years background in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
  • Experience in complex project management
  • Have strong organization and documentation skills
  • Strong written skills for creating technical proposals and communicating project status
  • Ability to multitask
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management
  • Forecast, manage and report on budgets
  • Comfortable with independent decision making

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Prior maritime experience from a technology perspective

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ Years of relevant work experience
