Maxar is seeking a talented Software Engineer with API development experience to join our 2D Streaming team within Maxar Geospatial Platform Core.
Job Description
You will be part of the 2D Streaming team responsible for developing, deploying, scaling and maintaining highly available and highly performant APIs for the Maxar Geospatial Platform. This engineer will contribute to a unified platform powering applications used by all of Maxar's customers (Commercial, USG, and International).
In this role, you will have the freedom to design and engineer solutions to drive innovative, modern approaches to meet our user needs and customer requirements. A successful candidate will be a passionate developer that embraces modern software development and insists others do as well. You will introduce automation and evangelize new tools and processes within a collaborative team environment. You will assist our streaming team with scaling, monitoring, and optimizing our APIs. You will build solutions, resolve defects, conduct code reviews, and communicate statuses in daily stand-ups within an agile workflow. This position participates in an on-call rotation to ensure our APIs are available, accessible, and performant.
This position is located in Westminster, CO or can be performed remotely. Candidates must be U.S. citizens.

What You'll Do Day-today
- Develop back-end software for high-performance APIs within an Agile team environment
- Commit code to Git repository using CI/CD practices and perform Pull Request reviews
- Create unit tests and procedures to verify software functionality and collaborate with our QA team
- Help architect features and capabilities, as well as document the implementation
- Participate in daily stand-ups and sprint planning
- Participate in on-call rotation to minimize API downtime and provide immediate resolution
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Minimum of 7-10 years of related experience
- Programming experience with Python and Java
- Experience developing REST API endpoints
- Experience with service-oriented and microservice architectures
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins)
- Exposure to database technologies and management principles
- Experience building cloud-native services (AWS, Google, Azure), including use of serverless computing technologies
- Experience with software lifecycles centered around right-sized mono-repos and their associated tooling that provides seamless integration testing and deployment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Familiarity with Jenkins
- Experience with AWS ELK Stack or similar
- Familiarity with ArgoCD and Helm or similar
- Familiarity with query languages (SQL, PL/SQL) and databases (relational, NoSQL, and graph databases e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Neo4j)
- Experience with utilizing automated testing and linting (PyTest, Black, Flake8, Radon, iSort)
- Strong written communication
- Highly focused self-starter that likes solving problems
- Passion for learning and teaching new technical skills
- Experience with geospatial software and domain (ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, CQL)
- Experience with raster data (imagery, basemaps, mosaics)
- Experience working on a geographically distributed team
In support of pay transparency at Maxar, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings. The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
• The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $119,000.00 - $199,000.00 annually.
• The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $131,000.00 - $219,000.00 annually.
• The base pay for this position within California is: $137,000.00 - $229,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
