The Collections Risk Strategy Team is responsible for the strategies and initiatives that help both combat delinquencies and losses and forecast future delinquencies and losses in an ever-changing economic environment. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to develop sophisticated strategies, perform cutting-edge analysis, and drive meaningful and challenging projects that improve the customer experience and deliver improved profitability for our business. You will have unparalleled exposure to Senior Leadership (i.e., seasoned Credit Analysts regularly present their analyses and recommendations to the Bank CEO and CFO) and be part of a dynamic, fast-paced, and growing division within Nordstrom.
A day in the life...
- Data Analysis & Interpretation: Utilize SAS and SQL to develop and analyze data sets, interpreting credit card portfolio performance and uncovering key trends that inform strategic decisions.
- Performance Monitoring: Continuously assess the effectiveness of existing collections strategies, delivering concise reports and presentations that summarize findings and insights.
- Strategic Recommendations: Translate analytical discoveries into actionable strategies that drive business impact and reduce credit delinquencies and losses.
- Forecasting & Assessment: Conduct in-depth assessments of vintage performance to accurately forecast expected credit losses and delinquencies, ensuring data reliability.
- Innovative Solutions Development: Employ advanced data mining and programming techniques in SAS and SQL to enhance analytical capabilities and discover new opportunities.
- Business Case Design: Create comprehensive business cases for initiatives aimed at optimizing collections risk and operations to achieve maximum net loss reduction.
- Proactive Improvements: Suggest enhancements to existing strategies using cutting-edge forecasting methods, ensuring we stay ahead of economic shifts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across TD Bank, Implementation, Operations, and Finance to boost Nordstrom's sales, deliver a world-class customer experience, and meet strategic business goals.
- Ad Hoc Analysis: Complete additional analytical requests as needed, demonstrating your flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
You own this if you have…
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field or a related combination of education and experience required; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: 3-6 years of experience in financial data analysis and reporting, ideally within the consumer credit card sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in SAS programming (SAS EGP) and advanced SQL development; experience with dialer strategies is a plus.
- Strategic Design: Proven track record in designing impactful strategies that optimize financial metrics and improve collections outcomes.
- Automation Expertise: Demonstrated success in developing SAS/SQL programs that generate automated reporting and output.
- Software Skills: In Depth SAS/SQL knowledge, and proficiency in MS Office, particularly with advanced Excel skills for data manipulation and analysis.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the Consumer Credit Industry is strongly preferred.
- Analytical Acumen: Ability to distill complex data questions into clear analytical plans, producing concise summaries with actionable recommendations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communicator with the ability to convey complex data insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to develop segmented collection strategies that customize timing and treatments for delinquent customers, leveraging SAS and SQL expertise
