The Temperature Product Engineer is responsible to provide “Concept to Production” design for Automotive Temperature Sensors and Thermal Management Devices. Serial Production is also supported through VA/VE activities. Duties will be accomplished both within the context of the SRI development process, customer development processes and global cross functional team participation.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working knowledge of temperature sensing technologies (Thermocouple, NTC, PTC – others)
- Sensor package design for applications (housing, connector, wiring, plastics)
- Sensing element design and construction process understanding (Ceramic PTC and NTC, RTD)
- Plastic injection processes and material options
- Analog voltage and current filter design understanding
- Permanent wire connections design (Welding, Crimping, soldering…)
- Experience with automotive Exhaust Gas temperature sensing application
- Experience with developing detailed product test plans to verify product design
- Working experience with Microsoft office tools and Minitab
- Apply mechanical and electrical engineering standard practices, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and technical problems
- Working experience with recorded vibration and temperature data from instrumented application vehicle at installation position. Interpretation and analysis to ensure product alignment fit for use assessment
- Provides, suggests, and supports solutions for VA/VE and cost improvement activities
- Applies and supports the identification of Customer design requirements related to design performance and material specifications including support and input into DFMEA creation. modification and manufacturing feasibility
- Working understanding of CAE (Thermal, CFD, Structural, Electrical) for product development and design
- Generates and maintains BOM structures and interfaces with the PLM system.
- Attends Customer/Supplier/SRI design meetings as the assigned Product Design Engineer representative within the cross functional product development teams.
- Comfortable presenting material to all levels of an organization
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field and 10+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Automotive industry experience and experience with temperature sensors and electrical devices is strongly preferred
- Experience with TS-16949 and other automotive industry business systems
- Experience creating 3D/2D designs and drawings using NX, Catia or Creo. NX Desired
- Demonstrated ability to apply and interpret GD&T and ANSI/ASME Y14.5-2009
- Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastic injection molding, casting, cold forming, stamping and assembly methods
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and problem-solving methodologies such as Shainin Red-X
- Ability to work independently and maintain a professional attitude in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
LOCATION AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimal travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (<10%)
